Are YOU leading YOUV child by
the hand into traffic -danger?
Chief of Police H. R, Themp,
son warns that many parents, who
think they are teaching children
good, safety rules, actually may be
doing the opposite,.
He .notes that 120 -children err the
average; die on Ontario roads each
year, and a Nether e,400 are in-
jured. There must be a, reason.
Most children do not think much,
about traffic danger; but they do.
imitate, their parents and others,
"Do you tell your child; 'Look
'both ways before crossing a road'
----and then ignore your own advice
when you rare out with him?"
Chief 'Thompson asks.
"Thousands of parents, td.cling
their child's, hand, step right off a.
curb -without looking, forgetting,
that children are more likely to
do what a parent does than what
he says should be done.
"So whenever you are with your
Child make a big point of stopping
carefully at every curb and look,
ing both ways. Let him see you
do f t. You may save his life .„
and perhaps' 'your owe
"This is the best way to devel-
op god safety habits. Sooner or
later we all become aware of the
greatest single hazard of modern
living-the traffic accident. But
for some children, the knowledge
comes too late. Accidents are the
greatest killer of children between
the ages of five and 15.
" And remember," the Chief
concluded, "don't lead your child
to death by the hand, Practice
good traffic habits. Stop and look
both ways at every curb."
