To Eight Ladies

The May meeting of the Clip-
tonian Club was held in the Insti-
tute room on the evening of May 2
with eight guests from Mitchell
present. The meeting opdned with
the housewife's Greed, Lord's. Pray-
er and the 23rd Psalm repeated in
unison.
Mrs. E. Epps presided. It was
moved by Mrs, R. MacDonald that
a bus trip be planned for June to
Wallaceburg. The next meeting is
to be held on June 6 at thet home
of Mrs. Nelson Reid, Varna.
Readings were given by Mrs. J.
Smith and Mrs. G. Glazier. It was.'
moved by Mrs. Colclough and sec-
onded by Mrs. T. Leppington that
the bills be paid. Tickets were sold
on a basket of groceries and' were
won by Mrs. E. Epps. •
Cards were' Played and prizes
were won by Mrs. Jamieson. The
lucky chair prize was won' by a
Mrs. Glazier, The club has receiv-
ed an invitation to the regional
meeting of the Children's Aid So-
ciety of Huron County to be held
on Thursday, May 31 at eight
o'clock in Wesley-Willis United
Church. Anyone interested in this
work is cordially invited.
Lunch was served by the com-
mittee.
Bride-Elect Is
Honoured By
District Shower

A shower in honor of Miss Jean
Mousseau, bride-elect of early May,
was held April 27, when neighbours
and friends gathered in her home
to present her with a floor lamp
and many lovely gifts,
Entertainment for the evening
was a mock wedding staged by
Mrs. J. Ingram as minister; Mrs.
larry Horton as groom, and Mrs.
Fred Beer as bride. The brides's
book of memories, an autographed
book with advice from all to the
bride: was made during the even-
ing. Jean replied with thanks and
extended an invitation to visit with
them in Clinton.
Jean's large and lovely trousseau
was shown by Mrs. Don Mousseau
and MIS. Stewart Bell. Mrs. Lloyd
Mousseau conducted the games,
Lunch was served. Guests were
present from Clinton, Exeter, Sea-
forth and London.

OPPORTUNITIES
FOR YOUNG MEN
OF SIXTEEN
Do you want to earn while you
learn a trade? Under the. Canadian
Army Soldier Apprentice Plan, start-
ing 1st June, the Canadian Army
will accept a limited number of
young men for training in 19 differ-
ent trades.
The training course lasts for two
years and then the Apprentice
serves three years with a regular
unit. Training starts in September.
Under this plan the Apprentice'
receives —
• Half pay to the age of 17 then
full pay
• 30 days paid holidays a year
• Medical and dental care
• Travel and adventure
• A healthy active outdoor life'
To be eligible applicants must be
16, not yet 17, have a trade 8 edu-
cation, and be able to meet Army
physical standards,
As only a limited number of applic-
ants can be accepted make your

Miss M, Ellis reviewed the sec-
ond chapter of the -study book,'
"Corning our Way," dealing with
Now Canadian or newcomers to
the country, Miss Ellis presented
statistics and stated how these
people are helped by church
groups. to become adjusted to their
new life and through the churches
and church organilations become
worthwhile citizens, and that a.
-smile and 'kindness, go a long way
in helping them feel they are need.

his talk by means of a candle, an
electric lamp and lighthouse.
Appreciation to those assisting
with the program was voiced by
R. N. Irwin,. An invitation was
accepted to be the guests of the
Ontario Street Men's, . Club at a
Games Night on Monday, May 7.
F/0 Howard Lochhead - spoke
briefly in appreciation to the exec-
utive for the splendid programs
which had been prepared through-
out the season. This was the final
meeting of the club until after
the summer recess. The, Meeting
closed with the singing of a hymn
and the benediction pronounced
by Rev, Mr. Snell.

Raise $275 For
Cancer. Campaign

Final drive of the district cancer
campaign,, already nearing its
first year objective, was staged in
Hensall, on Friday by members of
the Hensel]. Kinsmen Club. Mem-
bers of the club made a door-to-
door canvas, under supervision of
Past President Dr. D. J. McKel-
vie, chairman of the service com-
mittee. Dr. IVIcKelvie stated that
$275 was realized.
Mayor R. E. Pooley, Exeter,
campaign chairman, stated that
the drive has passed the $2,000
mark with more returns expected.
Objective this year is. $3,000.

Of the 3,685,000 families in Can-
ada at June 1, 1955, 1,155,000 were
childless.
