Her talk was supple- mented by interesting souvenirs of her trip. She spoke of the great kindness shown them by Americans during the Christmas season so far from home and of the preVailing spirit of friendliness to Canadians wherever they went. Mrs. Stewart. Middleton introd- uced the senior •study book "Who Dares Stand Idle," which should provoke interesting discussions, Mrs. Keith. Miller conducted' a word association contest, which was won by Mrs. John Middleton. Mr. Outerbriclge closed the meeting with prayer. A. bounteous lunch and social time concluded a splendid meeting. Grant Turner was auctioneer for a Chinese auction of silver salad servers donated by Mrs. Fred Weston, In his usual cap- able manner, he kept the bidding brisk. •When the timer rang, Charles Scotchmer was the last bidder and so he became the pur- chaser. This netted $8.32, The prizes for euchre were don- ated by Mrs. J. Lindsay, Mrs. Spencer Ervine, Mrs. Merton Mex., n.er and Mrs. J. Cluff. A delic- ious lunch was served by the mem- bers. The committee in charge of the cards and lunch was: Mrs. J. Miff, Mrs, Fred' Weston and Mrs'. Fred Wallis. Scents and Cubs Auxiliary At a meeting held in the base- ment of St: Andrew's United Church on Wednesday evening, February 8, a Ladies' Auxiliary to the local Scouts and Cubs was formed. The officers are: president, Mrs. Fred Wallis.; vice-president, Mrs. Reg. Francis; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Grant Turner. There was a good attendance of mothers of scouts and cubs. Doug- las Carswell, District Scout Mas- ter, explained the duties of the Ladies' Auxiliary. George Simons, Scout Master; Art Turland, Cub Master, and the Rev. Peter Ren- ner, secretary-treasurer of the Group Committee, were, present. Following this' gathering the ex- ecutive remained to plan an agen- da for the next meeting. It will be held' in the parsonage at eight o'clock on Wednesday evening, February 29. It is' requested that all mothers and persons interested in this fine movement be present. Douglas Carswell will give an ad- dress on Scouting and Cubbing. And he also hopes to show films of the. World Jamboree held at Niagara Falls last summer. A col- lection will be, taken for the Lad- ies' Auxiliary work. United Church WA , The Woman's Association or St. Andrew's United Church held a very successful Valentine social in the basement of the church on Friday evening. Outerbridge motored to Lockport, N.Y., on Wednesday of last week and Mrs. Outenbridge and Peter returned to the rectory with * him the next day. • The Women's. Day of Prayer will be observed this year in Knox Presbyterian Church, Bayfield, at 3 p.m. This service is for all wo- men of all Christian creeds all over the world. Mr. and Mrs, E. J. Sturgeon re- turned home on Sunday after hav- ing visited their son and wife, Mr, and Mrs. Stuart StUrgeon, Prest- on, and their daughter, Mrs. Frank i'esnderson and family, Science Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson and Fran- cis motored to the village with them, returning the same day. Willing WOrkers. Club The -February meeting of the Willing Workers was held Wed- nesday; at the home of Mrs., R. Jenkins. . The meeting opened with the Willing Workers prayer in unison,. The president, MrS..Robert Welsh, 'chose as her topic "I-laPPiness," The Rev, Peter Renner led in prayer, Thirteen members .and. one vis- itor answered the roll .call with a penny for each size of their shoe. The IVIerch meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs, grant Turner. The meeting closed with the Miz- pah benediction after- which there was an auction sale, Pancakes with maple syrup was the main course at the supper at Trinity Church Parish Hall, on Shrove Tuesday, It was' well pat- ronized, eight small tables and one large table being set, The ancient church, prescribed pan- cakes to be eaten on the day prior to Ash Wednesday. E'ach year Trinity Church Women's, Auxiliary takes this opportunity to raise money for missionary purposes, Mrs, R. J. Larson and Mrs, Percy Weston Were kept busy cooking the pancakes. Also helping in the kitchen were Mrs. J, Ciuff and Mra.' E, Heard. Mrs. J.' B. Hig- gins, Mrs. C, Knuchey, Mrs. W. S. Outenbridge, Mrs. L. Scotchmer, Mrs. J. E. Hovey and Miss Berth- ena Sturgeon served the guests. Mrs, E. Heard and :the Rev. W. S. Outerbridge attended the. -door during the evening. PS Valentine Party The pupils of Bayfield Public School marked February 14 in a very, happy manner. First they, had a Valentine exchange in their respective rooms. The introduction of the new book, "Love or Perish" by Smiley Blan- ton M.D., was read by Mrs. W. The meeting opened :by singing the hymn., "Softly and Tenderly," followed by a special prayer by the president, Mrs. Fred Middle- ton. The member's prayer and the Lord's Prayer were said in unison. Mrs. Gordon Rathwell gave a timely talk on, the World Day of Prayer Service which will be ob- served February 17, revealing the scope of this special day. • It was' the unanimous wish of those present that we hold this service in our own church on the day prescribed.
