One view of Canada that few natives ever see is the far north
spots picked as stations in• the mithCanatla early warning radar
line. Should war develop, these stations would be the country s
principal hope of early warning of air attack. This lakehead
site is about 700 miles north of Montreal and, with three tents
and a prefabricated shack, it houses half a dozen men arid sup-
plies for other stations built on hills and serviced by helicopter
There are two types• of sites' chosen: the hilltop, station and the
lakehead, the latter being a supply depot easily accessible to
amphibian planes, helicopters and boats.
