School, Concert The annual ,Chrtistross concert Of SS '10, (Fairmount) School was held •Tuesday evening, December 20 In spite of Arctic weather conditions, there was a good at- tenclanee. Robert Welsh acted as chairman. The -PrOgram opened with. welcome chorus by grades I and followed by "Chri,stnias in Kil- lArneY" and many old familiar hymns and carols; Catherine Wel- sh was accompanist for these numbers. Lois Rathwell favored with a lovely piano solo. * A Dialogue-"An Official' Visit" of the scheol board to the assem- bled pupils starred Grace Flewitt as the teacher, This was follow- ed by the lively "Big-a-jig dance. A highlight of the evening's entertainment was 'a lovely ..drill "Alice Blue Gown," with a beaut- ifully garlanded arbor decked with, crepe paper flowers and evergreen with Catherine Welsh as the chief soloist' Then followed a dialogue "The Rest Room," which was a riot and 'starred. Gary Mote strare ded in no man's land. . - The most ambitious part of the program was a 'two ,act Cantata, "The Sit Down Strike at Santa- vile," with. David Welsh .as Santa and Elaine Rathwell as Mrs. San-- ta, David's.singing of "I Like my HoMe Just as It. Is" deserves special mention; also the "Christ- mas Mail MUst Go", with John Streicher as soloist. • Many pupils took solo parts admirably, i.e. Bonnie Stirling, Margaret Semple, Grace - Flewitt, Elva .Carter, Judy -M. Block, Lois Rathwell etc. Between acts Elain Rath- well - favored with a piano solo. Rousing singing of • "Jingle Bells" brought the program to an end and heralded Santa's ap- proach. Robert Welsh as chair- man moved a hearty vote - of thanks to the teacher, Mrs. Bruce McClinchey, to the music direct- or Mrs. Emmerson Rodger and to the pupils, for their splendid ef- forts. Particularly impressive were the bright shining faces of the children, the - new Canadians and by the zest with. which they gave their all to their parts.
