Thou has faced the sullen storm; ' Jesus, veiled In human form, Stood unmoved in Pilato's hall Mooked and jeered and ecofled by all. 'Thy fair form was rudely torn, Then I think of Drown of thorn. Drops of blood run down that brow ; Methinks I tree them trickling now, On thy golden breast I eco An emblem of Gethsemane; Father pass from me this cup, Yet I will to drink it up. 'Thy pale petals are the nails ; Mental jtst his oar assails ; Still that prayer, forgive them too, For they know not what they do. •S ring will comp with balmy breath, Making seeds, to lite from death, O'er a teeming jocund earth, Men shall see a second birth. Burled in a rich man's tomb ; Leaves he then funereal gloom: •Cere, nents aro rudely torn ; A risen Lord no more forlorn. W. Lurrnow. She will teach till the first of May, when a male teacher will be engaged for the remainder of the year.—Dame rumor says that some of our young men and maidens are thinking about joining hand and hand together and climb life's rugged. hill. We think it is a very good plan. Zetland. Public school examinations take place so regularly once a year, that they may well be called anniversary occasions. Children look forward to one of them with as much pleasure as they do to the Queen's birthday, Dom- inion day or any other national holi• day. They also try and have . their appetites in good order, to be ready for the festival part. One of these happy occasions was the magnet which. attracted so many, of the par- ents of Zetland to the school last •Thursday. The'room was beautifully decorated with evergreens and colored ribbons ; and the success d the efforts of the children to give an inviting appearance to the room was only symbolical of the success of their men• tal development under their able instructor, Mr. Wilson. After a pro- gramme by the pupils, and speeches by the visitors, the gathering dispersed satisfied that they had not spent so happy a day for a long time. We congratulate the people of Zetland on having placed the training of their children in such good hands. East Wawanosh A Scott Aet meeting was held in the Brick Church on Monday evening. Lowry occupied the chair but no decision was given The subject was well handled and a go d audience present. A visitor writes : We had the plea. sure recently of spending a short time in the village school hero under the management of Mr. R. J. Barton. The general surroundings, the appar- ent harmonious working and applica- tion of the scholars impressed us very favorably. With another feature of the teaching we were especially pleased, the teaching of mental arithmetic. As one who taught a publio school for several years we most unhesitatingly state that we never saw such marvel- lous rapidity in the processes of add- ing, subtracting, multiplying, and di- viding.. The younger scholars appeared to surpass the older ones is this re- spect. An exalhination of the pupils ,of,Ingl,is School, Carrick, was held on Thursday last by Messrs. Huston, Barton, Hall, Miss Huston and the Misses McKay. 'The children re- sponded with a promptness and accur- acy clearly indicative of earnest and intelligent teaching by Mr. Macdonald. Edibles in splendid variety and pro- fusion were prepared by the good ladies of the Section and heartily en- joyed. Brief addresses were given lay the teachers present, Dr. Tuck and others. Recitations and songs were interspersed by the children of the school in the exercises, they being assisted by Mr. P. Hackney, singing master.
