Evans were visited on Sunday last by mem- bers of their family. These were:. Mr. and Mrs, Frank McInnes, Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. William Helm, John, Carol and Evans of Lucknow, and Mr. and Mrx E, S. Evans and Marjorie, St. Marys. The occasion was to honour Dr. Evans on the eve of his 90th bir- thday which fell on Monday, Dec- ember 14, (Intended for last week) Stanley Bryan, Oakville, spent the weekend with Mrs. A, McLeod. Miss Shirley G. Sutter, Guelph, accompanied by her nephew, Ron- ald Robbins, Acton, visited .over the weekend at the home of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs, John A. Sutter. Rev ,and Mrs. Hugh C, Wilson visited with relatives in Aylmer and London yesterday. Clinton PHONES: 363 y- 36W Ladies' Legion Auxiliary Celebrated Twenty -First Birthday on Monday The Ladies' Auxiliary to the Can- adian Legion came of age this month when on Monday evening December 14, in the Legion Mem- oriel Hall, Kirk Street, the mem- bers cut a large 21st birthday cake and enjoyed a Christmas party to mark the occasion. Comrade Hall, Zone Commander, Blyth, pinned a corsage. on Comrades Alice Thom- pson, Mae Cook, Mame Morgan, and Butler, all charter members of the auxiliary, Mrs, Grace Castle presided. Mrs. Del Jervis read the minutes and called the roll. Mrs. E. Denomme submitted the treasurer's state- ment, showing a bank balance in the general account $225.00 and in the welfare fund of $88.31. Eight new applications for mem- bership were received and accep- ted and will be voted upon at the next meeting. Thauke were read for flowers and gifts sent to veterans and sick members including patients and staff of Westminster Hospital, London, The Auxiliary agreed to begin the Saturday bingo games at 8.30 o'clock instead of 9 p,m. and Mrs. Gemmell was appointed bingo con- vener for the ensuing month. The Auxiliary will undertake the next public party for the Can- adian Legion on January 16 with Mesdames Castle, Haddy, Stanley, Managhan, as the committee in charge. A short musical program with Comrade McPherson at the piano, and Comrade Andrews leading in carol singing was enjoyed. Com- rade Bisback favoured with select- ions on the harmonica with her mother Mrs. Sturgeon as accomp- anist. Comrade Steep sang two lovely solos, "A White Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red -nosed Rein- deer.'" ein- de r:. Comrades Inkley and Stanley conducted three novel contests, much to the delight of all present. The door prize for the evening was won by Comrade Butler and a fruit cake was won by Mrs,. Madeline Mutch. A charming and very affection- ate Santa Claus arrived and dis- tributed gifts, Ten Children Were Baptised Sunday On Sunday, December 13, the sacrament of baptism was admin- istered in the Wesley -Willis Uni- ted church. Mrs. Donald Bagnall was receiv- ed into the full membership of the Church by the right of Adult Bap- tism. Bridge Club IIas Christmas Gaines The Town and Country Ladies' Bridge Club held their Christmas party at the home of Mrs. James McKenna, Adastral Park, on Monday evening, December 14. During the evening the ladies were joined, very unexpectedly by their husbands. The hostesses, Mrs. George Rutnball. and Mrs. McKen- na, served a bounteous lunch, and a social time was enjoyed by all. o Good Will Club To W -W Study Group Christmas Meeting The December meeting of the Mothers' Study Group of Wesley - Willis United Church was held at the home of Mrs. Norman Egan on December 15. The meeting was in the charge of Mrs. Hector Kingswell who opened it with a poem, "The Old and the Young", followed by the singing of "Silent Night". Mrs. Reg, Shipley read from Luke, chapter two. Mrs, Percy Livermore lead in prayer, Mrs. Kingswell read a story a- bout the origin of the Christmas Rose. Mrs, Howard Currie read "Santa's Christmas Letter". Mrs. Wilfred Jervis, Mrs. Reg. Shipley and Mrs. Percy Livermore sang a lovely hymn "No Room for Jesus" with Mrs. Livermore at the piano. Mrs. Kingswell read an interesting story entitled "Christmas when- ever it happens". "Gentle Mary laid her Child" was sung. Mrs. Wilfred Jervis, Mrs. Percy Livermore and Mrs. Elmer Hugill had packed and sent a bale of good used clothing to Mrs. Sloman in Capreol. Mrs. Jervis gave a re- port of what it contained. Mrs. Elmer Hugill gave a treasurer's report. Mrs. A. Dale moved that Mrs. Reg. Shipley and Mrs. Hugill buy material for a layette to be start- ed at the January meeting. Mrs. Lawrence Haughton seconded. Mrs. E. Hugill is to be treasurer for 1954 and Mrs. F. Miller, press secretary. Mrs. Hugill' received the collection. Mrs Fred Miller read a poem "Stage Setting". Mrs. Hugill read a story entitled "Christmas goes Outdoors", about the origin of the lighted outside Christmas tree, Mrs. Drew Fowler read "How to tell your children about Santa Claus." Mrs. Lawrence Haughton read a humourous article about buying a man a Christmas gift. "Parents don't rear two children exactly alike" was read and dis- cussed by Mrs. Kingswell. Mrs. Jervis, Mrs. Livermore and Mrs. Shipley favored with another trio which was very much enjoy- ed by everyone, "Away in a Man- ger". The meeting was closed by the singing of "0 Little Town of Bethlehem" followed by the Miz- pah Benediction. A social hour followed and Mrs. W. Jervis, Mrs. A. Dale and Mrs. N. Egan served a delicious lunch. The January meeting will be held at the hone of Mrs. Drew Fowler with Mrs. Joe Cooper in charge and Mrs. P. Livermore and Mrs. R. Shipley as hostesses. The president Miss W. O'Neil was in the chair with Mrs, Percy Livermore at the pia- no Mrs. Lorne Jervis prepared and conducted a most interesting program. She acted as narrator, reading passages of scripture tell - of the birth of Christ while a quartette, Mrs, W. Jervis, Mrs. R. Shipley, Mrs. D. Middleton and Mrs. E. Hugill sang Christmas hymns. Miss L, Walkinshaw led in pray- er. Mrs, G. Jefferson read "Our Child" by Dora Farncombe. Miss Stone as speaker, gave a talk on "The Children of the Wor- ld", stressing particularly their need -in war-torn areas. Miss W. O'Neil was in charge of the bus- iness. The minutes were approved as read by the secretary, Mrs. M. Steepe. The treasurer, Miss L, Walkinshaw, gave the financial re- port. The various committees for the New Year were outlined. It was decided to give financ- ial help to the M & M Fund. The WMS C.A.R.E. and the Save the Children Fund. As - project for the corning year it was decided to finance the church bulletins.
