Clinton Court
Gilbert McGraw, Matilda Street,
appearing before Magistrate Dud-
ley Holmes, Goderich, in court
yesterday afternoon, was charged
$75 and costs, or three weeks in
jail. In the first magistrate's
court to be held in Clinton for
many years, Mr. McGraw was
charged with keeping liquor for
sale and unlawfully selling it, un-
der the Canada Temperance Act.
Ken McKenzie, on a charge of
selling. liquor to Air Force person-
nel was dismissed. McKenzie, who
works for a local taxi firm, was
warned by the magistrate that in
future he should refrain from traf-
fic with bootleggers, since a fur-
ther offence would endanger his
license as well as that of his em-
ployer, depending upon the decis-
ion of the Town of Clinton to en-
force by-laws, •
Fergus McKay, Clinton, was
fined $5 and part of the costs, on
a charge of common assault. Evid-
ence was that McKay had used
force to persuade B. Jodion, Hen-
sel', to pay him $10 owed McKay's
daughter for services to the Jod-
ion family. Jodion is at present
stationed at RCAF Station, Clin-
ton.
Colin McMillen, R.R. 1, Goderich
Township, was sentenced to seven
days in Huron County jail, costs
or ten more days; and his driver's
licence was suspended for three
months, on charges of driving
while impaired,
Careless driving charge against
Murray McKenkie, Kippen, was
dismissed. This concerned the ac-
cident on September 19 at the
main intersection of Clinton, when
William Cook, Maple Street, was
struck by McKenzie's car, which
was making a left hand turn at
the intersection. Poor driving con-
ditions owing to rain, vacuum

Light Hogs For
UK Market
(continued' from page one)
this year have 371 members com-
pleting three projects. Mr. Mont-
gomery mentioned the judging
competitions held at Seaforth, the
inter -county competitions at Guel-
ph and the entries at the Royal
Winter Fair by the clubs.
Speaking about the hog industry
Mr. Montgomery quoted percent-
ages of the showing the drop in
numbers of Grade A hogs market-
ed in Canada and in the County
in 1952, in each case a drop of 2
per cent. He mentioned the fact
that the western farmers with sur-
pluses of grain would possibly
start raising hogs to use up the
grain.
Quality, A Must
"Good prices canbe expected for
the next six months. Within a
year, we'll be looking for outside
markets, This is a severe test for
the Central Marketing Board. The
United Kingdom will demand
quality, This is a challenge to the
organization to create a bigger
spread in prices of different grades
or to urge better quality. Possibly
the organization may put more
pressure there, by pointing out to
producers the need for quality
hogs. During the post-war years
we've been slipping along, and
good quality has been neglected,
"stated Mr. Montgomery.
Dan Baucrman, reeve of McKiII-
op Township, stated that the ag-
ricultural committee was always
100 per cent behind the agricultur-
al representative and the 4-I3 pro-
grams. Ile said he believed it was
a good thing for the hog produc-
ers' to spend money encouraging
the young folk to produce better
stock, which would be an incent-
ive towards staying on the farm.
R. S. McKercher stated that he
believed the marketing agency had
already paid for itself in the work
it had done to keep prices up. "The
experience gained by the men in
the agency will be of use in the
selling job which will be necessary
a year from now when the threat-
ened surplus of hogs reaches the
market, "he said. He urged better
quality, and a lighter hog carcass,
evert :for the home market,
Mr. McKercher mentioned the
farm forum program of the night
before, and compared the forceful
presentation of „ the edible oils
story, with the dull old story
which the dairy representative put
forth. He mentioned what D, Eis-
enhauer, president of the United
States, had said concerning the
job that advertising had done in
selling beef, and said, "We've g t
to get busy and sell our product.
We can't knock the other fellow,
but sell our own."
Needs Assistant
A suggestion was made by Orval
Taylor that there was need for
another assistant agricultural re
presentative in the county. He
mentioned that for the first 37
days that Harold Maker was in his
a
new position, hehadhad a meet -
big
eet-
ing every night. "That's overwork-
ing anybody," said Mr, Taylor.
