YPU Rally Staged
At Blyth Tuesday
Blyth United Church was the
scene of much activity on the
evening of Tuesday, October 27,
1953, when the Huron Presbytery
Young People's Union of the Unit-
ed Church of Canada held its fall
rally with the president, Clare
Vincent, Londesboro, presiding•
In two settings, approximately
275 young people were served a
delicious banquet by the ladies of
the Blyth United Church, For
those waiting, short sing -songs led
by Gail Manning and discussion
groups to determine the value of
area meetings, took place.
Rev. C. J. Scott, minister of the
host church, and also London Con-
ference Young People's counsellor,
welcomed the young people to
Blyth United Church and wished
their rally every success.
Dennis Weymouth, president of
the host local union, also brought
greetings to the young people.
Rev. George Watt, Dungannon,
mentioned that, since the last
rally, three young men from Hu-
ron Presbytery had entered the
ministry and were now attending
university: namely, Harvey Spar-
Iing, Exeter; Leslie McSpadden,
Winthrop; and Brock Vodden,
Blyth. A moment of prayer was
given for these young people who
have given their lives to church
work.
Clare introduced Rev. Ward
Kaiser, Evangelical minister,
Stratford, who was the theme
speaker for the evening. Mr. Kais-
er expressed his appreciation of
being invited to speak to such a
large gathering and wished the
Young People's Union every suc-
cess.
A short sacred sing -song was
led by Margaret Holland. Exeter

quartet from Goderich. After the
call to worship, the hymn "0
Master, Let Me Walk with Thee"

Rev. Kaiser developed the theme
"Teach Us to Pray, Lord". He
compared each of us to a person
who had fallen down an abandon-
ed well and was helped out by
being lifted up a ladder, fed, and
put on his way once more. Each
one of us too, when we are faced
with trials and temptations, etc.,
and fall into the pit, may, if we
take Jesus as our friend and sav-
iour, be lifted up and given power
to continue on our way. He em-
phasized that because of exper-
iences, prayer will become natural
and normal, and that prayers,
when complete, will contain five
things, namely: adoration, confes-
sion, thanksgiving, intercession,
and supplication.
The closing hymn, "What a
Friend we have in Jesus" was
followed by "The Lord's Prayer",
sung by the quartet.

er repeated in unison.

scripture lesson. Mrs, Murch pre-.
sented the minutes of the Septem-•
be meeting. Thanks were given to
the ladies who had set up the doll
clothes booth at the Country Fair
on Saturday, and on motion of
Mrs. Wilfred Jervis, seconded by
Mrs. Reg. Shipley, a similar booth
will be set up at the 1954 Country

A suggestion by Mrs, P. Liver-
more, seconded by Mrs. Pegg, was
that used clothing, toys, books,
etc., he brought to the November
meeting so that a box could be
sent up north before Christmas.

members of the group to hold the
November meeting in the manse,
when Mrs. Dale will be in charge

West," then a hymn was sung,

ing closed with the Mizpah bene-
diction.
