CDCI Field Day was held last
Friday. All the events were keen-
ly contested and results will be
found in another column of this
edition. Individual champions
that this corner wishes to congrat-
ulate are: senior boys, Bruca Ash-
down; intermediate boys, Larry
Jones; junior boys, Ron Hugill;
juvenile boys, Jack Watkins; sen-
ier girls, Joyce Hawkins; inter-
mediate girls, Edith Jones; junior
girl, Marjorie Goldsworthy,
The field meet, although very
successful from a contestant view-
point, was quite disappointing
from the Spectator angle, We
sympathize with the teachers who
put so much time into organiz-
•ing the annual event. rt must
seem that the work involved is
rather futile when only about '25
percent of the student body stay
to cheer their favourites on to
'victory. The remainder use field
day as another hoilday and take
off for parts =known. This
writer would venture to predict

that if the students continue to
show so little interest in the clay
that field day will be 'eventually
discontinued, as has been the fate
of the county meet that only a
few short years ago was one of
the big sporting items on all the
district high schools.

Auburn's juvenile baseball team
are deserving of a pat on the
back. They have captured the
Ontario Baseball Association, juv-
enile "D" championship, Thie is
the second year in a row that
this team has brought provincial
honours to the little town to the
north. Last year they won the
Midget "D" crown.
.According to Bill Craig, the
team's manager, the boys will be
feted in true championship form
later on this year, He added that
since the boys had received jack-
ets and crests last year that ban-
quet and the crest would be the
order this year.
Where they will put the crests
poses as another problem because
it was practically the same group
of boys who won the hockey
championship of that district last
year and the league presented
them with crests for that feat.

Prospects for an Intermediate
hockey team this year seem to be
brighter although to use Manager
Bert Gliddon'e phrase "things are
still in the air." Some players
have been contacted and since RC-

ium of the Town Hall, Clinton,

Draper, president of the club;

With a good badminton season

The more people that come to
these evenings, the better the
badminton season will be.

Football came to CDCI yester-
day, with the Redmen travelling
to Wingham for the first game of
the current campaign. If the
score of the first game (Clinton
29, Wingham 0) is any indication
of the season then CDCI will be
a team that will take a lot of
beating.
PUC Held Regular
Meeting Tuesday
All members of the Public 'Ut-
ilities Commission met in the
PUC office on Tuesday evening,
or the regular September meet-
ing. Chairman Hugh R. Hawkins
presided.
The request from Alex Powell
for water, sewerage and hydro
to his new garage now in the
Process of construction on High-
way 4,south of the town, was
granted partially. Water and
hydro can be supplied. However,
the location makes it difficult
and highly expensive both for
the PUC and for Mr. Powell to
consider putting in town sewer-
age.
The superintendent was re-
quested to investigate the possi-
bilities of :moving a pole at the
rear door .of Eartliff's restaur-
ant, on. request from the owners.
The pole considerably handicaps
the restaurant owners when
loading and un -loading trucks.
Proposal from. the CNR to raise
the rent on property being used
by the PUC as a pole yard, from
$10 to $15 per year was accepted.
