David Ormond, Detroit, is spend- ing a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Ormond. Mrs. Walter Brodie, Toronto, came on Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs, A. W. Reid this week. Dr. and Mrs. Stanley Heard and small son Wesley, London, were. at their cottage on Sunday. Mrs. E. Geddes, Seaforth, visit- ed her sister, Mrs. James Fergus- on, for a few days last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. MacKenzie and Mrs. 3. H. Cobb left on Monday to apenii a vveek at Omemee, Ont. Mrs. Don Sager and small son, Clare, Goderich, are visiting her sister, Mrs. Robert Turner and family. W/O and Mrs. G. 13. Kennedy and little Peggy Lou, Trenton, visited Mrs. R. H. F. Gairdner; on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Dunn and two daughters, London, were at their cottage on Bayfield Terrace over the weekend. Miss Barbara Bassett left on Sunday for London where she has taken a position with the London Lite Assurance Co. Miss, Kathleen and Bernard Read, Windsor, were with their parents,'Mr. and Mrs. A, W, Reid, over the weekend, Mr. and Mrs. F. Hendrick, and Mr. and Mrs. F. Hendrick, Jr,, Birmingham, Mich„ were at "Westwind," Over the weekend, Mr. and Mrs, F, MacKenzie left on Saturday for their home in St. Louis, Miss., after having spent a month in the Metcalf stone house. Dr, and Mrs. Ralph Thompson, Rhode Island University,. have re- turned }some after having visited the latter's mother, Mrs. Ernie Diehl, "Redlyn". Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Col,ard, London, have bought George Foote's property on Main Street and are renovating it for a sutn- mer residence. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Diehl, To- ronto, were here recently visiting the fernier's mother, Mrs. E. Diehl, who, we regret to report, is ill in Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Galbraith and Miss Nancy Galbraith, Dun- das, accompanied by Douglas Mc- Auley, Hamilton, were at their borne, "Sylvan Acres," Blue Water Highway, hw ay, poderich Township, over nd. Miss C. P. Rankin and her guest, Mrs. S. Gillespie, returned to "Glenboig", on Friday after having spent ten days with relatives at Richmond Hill. Mrs. Gillespie also enjoyed ,a motor trip to Ottawa and Niagara Falls... W. Ewing Buchan, , who has spent the past two months with his sister, Mrs. N. W. Woods, left on Saturday for Windsor enroute to his home in Calgary, Alta. J. Those who contributed were members of the Goshen Unit- ed Chitreli; congregation and other residents of the community. This very fine gesture was much ap- preciated by the family. Stewart is very popular and the good wish- es of his many friends go with him. Antdversary Service Anniversary service was held in the Goshen United Church on Sun- day, September 15, at 11 a.m. and 7.50 p.m. In spite of the inclement weather large congregations gath- ered. The guest preacher was Rev. N. McLeod, B.A., B.D., Kippen, who preached two very helpful sermons, At night the minister of the church, Rev. T. J. Pitt, con- ducted the service. The choir gave a very fine con- tribution to .both services with their especially prepared music. Instrumental numbers were well given by Mrs. Clare McBride and Mrs. William Taylor on the trum- pet and saxaphone respectively. The organist for the day was Mrs. Bruce Keys. At the morning ser- vice,. in addition to the anthem, a duet was sung by Mrs. Elmer Keys and .laugh McBride. At night a quintette consisting of Mrs. Roy McBride, Mrs. Elmer Keys, Mrs, Russell Erratt, Richard Robinson and Roy McBride, was sung. Both these numbers were well received. LOPDESBOPO ... . w.y Clifford Saundercock is having his house shingled. William Cowan, Stratford, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. George Cowan. A number from here attended anniversary services in Constance United Church last Sunday. Work commenced this week on the reconstruction of Jack Snell's barn which recently was destroyed by fire. Mrs. Margaret Manning, who broke her arm recently, is at pres- ent with her daughter, Mrs, Frenk Tamblyn. Mr. and Mrs. William Govier spent the weekend in London with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs, Willis Mountain and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Young- blut have returned home after visiting relatives in the . United States last week. Rally Day) Rally Day will be observed in Londesboro United Church on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. (stand- ard time). WI Will Meet The regular meeting of the Lon- desboro Women's Institute will be held on Friday, October 2, in Lon- desboro Community Hall. The roll call will be answered with "Some- thing we have to be thankful for." Mrs. Lloyd Pipe will give the motto. The topic is "Thanksgiv- ing." Mrs. Sid Lansing will give a demonstration on table setting. The program is In the charge of Mrs. Watson Reid and Mrs. Ernest Knox. Hostesses are, Mrs. Jack Armstrong, Mrs. Trewin, Mrs. Dave Anderson, Mrs. Bert Allen and Mrs. E. Hesk. Please note that the date of the bazaar on regular meeting date, the meeting is changed to Oct. 2. At the close of the evening ser- vice, Mr. Pitt thanked all who had, in any way,- assisted in making the anniversary services of 1953 so successful. Mission Band On Sunday, September 20, the Goshen Mission Band had their meeting for September with Donna Hayter at the piano. "God Sees the Little Sparrow Fall" was sung. The scripture, Luke 10: 25-28, was read by Gail McBride, followed by prayer by Marlene McClinchey. Donna Hayter took up the offer- ing which amouted to $1.11. 23 answered the roll call with their favorite school subject. • The minutes were read by Elaine McClinchey. Election of officers for 1953-54 resulted as follows: President, Merle Armstrong; first vice-president, Jack Arm- strong; second vice-president, Al- lan Hayter; secretaries, Gwen Mc- Bride a n d Elaine McClinchey; treasurer, Donna Hayter; World Friends secretaries, Marlene Keys and Dianna Peck. The first chapter in the new study book, "The Round Window" was read by Mrs. Clare McBride. The meeting closed with the Mis- sion Band purpose and hymn. Juvenile "D" Team Congratulations go to our Juven- ile "D"baseball team who won the OBA championship at Bolton. They are the same group who were successful last year, also in copping the OBA Midget "D" champion- ship. William Craig and Nelson Patterson deserve much credit for their time and interest with such a fine group of athletes. Harvest home Harvest Home services will be held in St. Mark's Anglican Church next Sunday at 11 a.m. and 7.30 p.m., standard. time. In the inorn- ing, the rector, Rev. W. E. Bram- well, will bring the message. In the evening, Rev. H. Parker, Wing - ham, rural dean, will be the guest speaker. There will be special music.
