Fellows, at her cottage on Louisa St, Miss Sandra Arnott returned to her Home in London recently after having spent a week with Mrs. Harry Baker, Mrs,J. Barrett, and a friend Mrs, , Middleton, Detroit, have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Percy Weston this week. Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Nicholls, London, are speeding three weeks' vacation with the latter's mother, Mrs, F. W. McEwen. Mrs. Margaret Woods, Miss Woods,, and Ewing Buchan, are mending this week visiting re- lativea, in Dunnville. • Mr; and Mrs. F, L. Carten and eons, Washington, D,C., visited with Mr. and 'Mrs. LeRoy Poth during the past week. Miss . Linda Wagaar is in Sea - forth visiting her friend, Lorraine Wood both girls having at one time lived in Whitehorse. Jack and Mildred Fraser, Lon- don, accompanied by a friend, Miss Blanche Williams, spent a week- end recently with their parents, Mrs. George Peck returned to Fargo, N. Dalt., last week after having visited her sister-in-law, Mrs. William Dowson, for a week. Mrs. J. Davison received word on Friday morning of the death of her niece, Miss Lottie Ker, who passed away on Thursday in Walk- erton. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lance, and children Bill, Chris and Justin re- turned to their cottage, from De- troit, and will stay until Labour Day. Mrs. S. Gillespie, , Paisley, Scotland, arrived on Wednesday of last week, at Crumlin Air Port, to visit Miss Catherine P. Rankin. Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Orr returned to Stratford on Wednesday of last week after having been at their cottage on Bayfield Terrace for the past six weeks. Mrs. E. Koenig and family and Bayne Perrin, Kitchener spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Poth. On their return they were accompanied by Ronald Poth, Mr. and Mrs, Francis A. Mac- Kenzie, St. Louis, Mo, are occupy- ing the Metcalfe cottage this month, Mr. MacKenzie returned to St. Louis, for the weekend, A. W. Reid spent last week in Windsor. Miss Kathleen Reid, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. T. Janes, Windsor, came on Tuesday to spend a short vacation with her mother, Mrs. Lucy Plater and children Eric, Bob and Ken, Detroit and Mr, and Mrs, Arthur Sullivan and David, have been spending their holidays in Rayfield, with their brother Donald MacLeod. Recent arrivals at the Jowett cottages are: Mr. and Mrs. A. Luckman, London; Mr. and Mrs. C. Daly and family, London; Major and Mrs, Fraser and family 'of RCAF Station, Clinton.. Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Hilton, Baltimore, Md; "and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hislop, Toronto, are visiting Mrs. R. H. F, Gairdner, recalling old .days when they all lived to- gether in Washington, Pa. some 25 years ago. • Harry Baker, London, joined his wife, Connie and Gwen at their cottage last week for a vacation. They were called back to London on Thursday night owing to the sudden death of Mrs. Baker's brother, Albert Burrows. Mrs. Maud Alexander, and Mrs. Maud Brown, London, were guests at the Tillman cottage this week. Miss Hazel Webb, Delray Beach, Florida, and little Miss Connie Webb, London also spent several days guests of Dr. W. Tillman. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. = Carthew, Walkerville, were overnight quests of Canon and Mrs. H. M. Lang - Ford at their cottage on Monday of last week. Also on Wednesday, the Rev. and Mrs. F. H. Paull, Listowel, stayed overnight with them. Mr. and Mrs, George Miles, Tor- onto, spent a few days this month with Mrs,. F. McEwen. After vis- iting in Sarnia, Mrs. Miles return- ed to spend last week with her cousin. Clark Miles and Miss Joan Brunston, Kincardine, were also Mrs. McEwen's guests last week. Little Miss Muriel Fraiser, Sea - forth, spent last week at the home of her sister, Mrs. Gordon Rad- ford. Mrs. Earl Hamilton and son, Douglas, Wingham, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ad- ams last week. Villagers were saddened to hear of the death by drowning of seven year-old Robert Ernest Apfelbeck, 2 Warehouse St., St. Thomas who slipped from the. pier at Port Stanley on Monday evening. Mrs. Devaux, also of St. Thomas, who tried to save him, also drowned, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Schnell re- turned to their home in Detroit a week ago Sunday after having spent a vacation in Canada. They were at Wasaga Beach for a week. and then took a trip to Niagara Falls and St, Catherines, accomp- anied by Mr. and Mrs. Ed, Schnell, with whom they visited here. Miss Mary Lou Burt who as a student has been employed as a waitress at Lakeside Lodge, Minett t Muskoka, during the vacation,' visited her aunt, Mrs. Lloyd Scot- chmer, on Tuesday of last week. On September 1, Mary Lou enter- ed St. Joseph's Hospital, London, as a nurse -in -training. We wish her every success °in her chosen voc- ation. Mr. and Mrs. Frederick A. Erb, Rick, Wendy and Leslie, have re- turned to Birmingham, Mich., after spending the month of August at "Birchcliff" cottage. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Bauer, Brenda and Barbara, Waterloo, spent a week- end with them, and Miss Marion McCracken, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. was also their guest over a week- end recently. Miss Mabel Hodgins, Toronto, who recently returned after having been in London, England, for the Coronation . and taken a tour of Great Britain and Xreland, the Low Countries and Norway, arrived at her cottage, on August 19. She was accompanied by her brother -in law and sister, Dr. and Mrs. Cam- eron McNeil, who were here until the following Sunday enroute from a holiday in Jasper, Alta., to their home in Cleveland, Miss Margaret Macdonald, Toronto, who accomp- anied Miss Hodgins overseas was her guest at "Stonehaven" last week. Help for Elaine The Bayfield Lion's Club sur- prised Mr. and Mrs. W. Townshend Porter's Hill, with a gift of $26 to pay for a made-to-order brach that is necessary for their little girl, Elaine, James A. Camrieron, chair- man of the Easter Campaign Fund for crippled children visited their home recently. The purchasers of Easter seals will be glad to know that this money can be spent only for such cases. Special Yottth Service On Sunday morning, the mem- bers of the Church Boys' League, of Trinity Church, and members who are associated with the Brownies and Guides, all walked in procession at the 11 o'clock ser- vice, and it was a day devoted to youth. Bernard Sturgeon had passed the test required to be- coming an esquire in the group, and was duly installed therein by the rector, The boys repeated to- gether their special prayer and !resolutions, sang their hymn and won all hearts, as they marched our, with their standard, bearing the motto, "here am X, send me." The W.1Vi,S. entertained the Mission Band, the Baby Band and their mothers, this Wednes- day afternoon at the church. A picnic supper was served on Mrs. Lyon's lawn adjoining the church property. Mrs. Thomas Knox had a nasty fall recently which injured her hip. She will he laid up for same time. She is at present at the home of her son William Knox, Blyth. We all wish her a speedy recovery. PORTER'S HILL ..e Grace WA Meet The August meeting of the WA of Grace Church, was held at the home of Mrs. William Townshend. Rev, Renner opened the meeting with prayer and the president was in charge of the meeting. Roll call was answered and an exchan- ge of a jar of jelly or jam. Sec- retary's and treasurer's reports were read and adopted. During a' lengthy business discussion it was decided to buy new choir books. • A "Wreath of Leaves" quilt was quilted during the after- noon. The meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction and the host- ess served a delicious lunch. Anniversary Sept. 27 The choir have commenced prac- tice for anniversary services to be held in Grace Church on Sunday, September 27. Rev. Rogers, Hen - sail will be guest speaker. Community Club Mrs. Molly Cox was hostess for the meeting of the Porter's Hill Community Club on Wednesday last. The president Mrs. Phyllis Harrison was in charge of the meeting. Secretary's and treasur- er's reports were read and adop- ted. Roll call was answered by naming a form of pioneer enter- tainment. Readings were given by Isobel Harris and the president 'conducted several contests. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction and a lunch was served by the hostess.
