Beach .Safety :Organization.
Eleven. members were present
for,;the, meeting of.. the. Bayfield
Beaph'Safety Organization held :at
the home.. of the; chairman, Jack
Tiliinane on July 18,
The balance of the fund on hand
from last.. year is being used for
further improvement. Two more
lifebelt standards complete with
belts are being erected—one on
the beach at Bailey Park and one
near the end of Victoria Street.
There will be signs on each stand-
ard and on the piers giving the
Iocation of the nearest telephone
should the pneolater be required.
The following cottage owners have
telephones in. the vicinity of the
south beach: J. C. Cook, Dr. W. J.
Tillmann, Elmer Parker, Bonar
Aust, E. J. Bauer and James Day.
A small pressure spray tank has
been purchased with which it is
hoped to eliminate any patches of
poison ivy on the beach.
Arrangements have been made
to have containers emptied and
the beach tidied each week. There
was considerable comment at the
meetin' re the bottle -smashers
who, regardless of public opinion,
persist in selfishly indulging their
own pleasure, and deliberately
leaving broken glass to endanger
the lives of adults and small
children.
Another menace to the safety of
small children is the recent prac-
tice of teen-agers from other
towns in so-called "Hot -rods" and
motorcycles racing around Pioneer
Park.
For the protection of children
and bathers, an effort is being
made to have stop signs erected
at the intersection of Bayfield Ter-
race and Coll Sts., and also on the
through streets intersecting Tuyll,
and to put an end to irresponsible
racing by teen-agers.
The board for the ensuing year
consists of Jack Tillrnann, chair-
man; Jim Day, secretary; Leslie
Elliott, treasurer; and the presi-
dent of the Lions Club, Ken
Merrier.
WA Lawn Tea
The beautiful shady lawn at the
home of Mrs. R, H. F. Gairdner
was the setting for a most enjoy-
able tea on Wednesday, July 15,
from 3 to 5 o'clock, at which there
was a good attendance. The tea
table set at the end of the lawn
was done with lace and centred
with sweet peas. Mrs. J. A. Cam-
eron poured and the guests were
served by members of the Wom-
en's Auxiliary, assisted by the fol-
lowing girls, Mary Alice Hunter,
Barbara Bassett, .Helen Whittall,
Rosalind Carew -Jones and Marg-
aret Howard.
At the close of the affair, Mrs.
Mario Gerber delighted those pres-
ent- with several selections on a
flute which she had made herself,
of bamboo. Prior to her marriage,
Mrs. Gerber, a native of Switzer-
land, was a kindergarten teacher
in Barcelona, Spain.
The sum of $37.35 was realized
to be applied to a special parochial
pledge of $50 undertaken by the
WA this year.
