Mission Band
The June meeting of the Wil»

the school with Robert Grigg as
leader. The meeting opened with
the hymn "For the Beauty of the
Earth," followed by the Mission
Band Purpose, Iva Glazier read
the scripture, taken from Genesis
I. Bobby Norman had the player.
Tlie president, Mary Hutchins,
conducted the business. Barbara
Yea. read a poem on "June", and
Frances McCullough read an art-
icle on Temperance. Douglas Nor-
. roan gave the treasurer's report
and Victor Conan gave a reading
on peace.
Kenneth Potter played a piano
solo, A contest was enjoyed and
then the leaders took the study
book iwriod. The meeting closed
with the hymn "Jesus Bids Us
Shine", and , the Mizpah benedic-
tion,

The Women's Missionary Society
and Woman's Association of Hal-
mesville United Church held their
reg lar meeting in the Sunday
ooF room with Mrs. Ninian
Heard as leader. . The meeting
opened with°soft music played by
th' ,.Pianist, .Mrs, William Norman,
followed with the hymn "Break
Thou the Bread of Life." Mrs.
Harry Cudmore read the scrip-
ture, Psalms 119: 129-136, and
Mrs. Heard led in prayer, Mrs.
Heard read an article on
"Thoughts of the Day" and the
hymn "From Greenland's Icy
Moutains" was sung.
Mrs. W. Yeo read an article on
"Our Parcels Reached Korea."
Mrs. William Norman read a let-
ter from India written by Ida
White, a former Children's Aid
Society worker. The president,
Mrs. Fred Mulholland, conducted
a memorial service in memory of
the late Mrs. Thomas Elliott: Mrs.
Jack Yeo was appointed assistant
secretary for rest of the year.

The W.A. meeting opened with
the president, Mrs, Karry Cud -
more, in the chair, the singing of
the theme song and repeating the
creed., Mrs. Cudmore read the
scripture, Matthew: 5.8, and gave
a short talk on the meaning of the
verse.
it was decided to sponsor a mu-
sic recital to be put on by the
pupils of Miss Eileen Gliddon, also
to cater for a wedding reception
in July, The meeting closed with
prayer by Mrs. Cudmore.
Following the meeting, Mrs.
Cudmore called Rev. and ldrs. M.
G. Newton to the front, and on
behalf of the ladies of the WA
and WMS, Mrs, W. Yeo and Mrs.
Fred Mulholland presented them
with gifts, a record player for Mr.
Newton and a cameo locket and
earring set for Mrs. Newton. Mrs,
Cudin*re read the accompanying
address. Rev. and Mrs. Newton
replied, and a delicious lunch was
served..

nierhitl Ladies' Club, was held
at the home of Mrs, William
Blacker 'With 20 members and
two visitors present, The Meet
lug was opened by singing The
Maple Leaf Forever; followed
by the Lords Prayer repeated in
unison.
A "thank you" was received
from Mrs. George Wright. Plans
were made far a combined school -
and .community, picnic to be betel
the evening- of June 23 in Gorier,-
Iich.
The program consisted of a
reading by Mrs. Wes. Hoggart and
a contest conducted by Mrs. Ivan
Roggart. 'During the afternoon
the ladies worked at the quilt.
.The raffle was won by Mrs, E.
Vanderburg.
i The July meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs, Earl Blake.
Those on the program are Mrs.
Jelmsten, Mrs. Silly Jenkins,
Mrs, Sid Lansing and Mrs, Will -
lam .Lovett. On the lunch cont.-

Mr. and Mrs. James Barnes
spent several days at their cot-
tage. Kiss • Alma Barnes joined
them for the weekend.
Mr, and Mrs. Cecil Merkley,
Wingharn, accompanied by Jam-
es Smith, and small son also of
Wingham, spent the wekend at
their cottage.
Mr. and Mrs. George Woods,
Detroit, accompanied by Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Reeves and son Ral-
ph, were at their cottage last
weekend.

A happy family gathering was
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
John H. McEwen and Stuart Mc-
Ewen on Sunday last. Among
these present were Mr. and Mrs.
William Tebbutt, Goderich; Mrs.
O. L. Paisley, Clinton; Alex Mc-
Ewen, Mrs. Janet Stephens, Mr.
and Mrs. Stewart Middleton.
This dinner party was held in
honor of Mr. McEwen's 80th birth-
day, which fell on June 15. Mr.
McEwen is able to attend "kirk"
regularly and to assist actively in
farming operations driving either
team or tractor. Congratulations!

visiting with friends in Western
Canada.

Clinton, recently visited with Mrs.
William Lyon.

Phemie Reid are on a motor trip
to Calgary, Alta.
Misses F. and E. Jamieson have
returned home after spending a
week with relatives at Cadiz,

The regular meeting of the
Burns-Londesboro Young Peop-
le's Union was held in Londes-.
boro United Church on Sunday
night.
The meeting began with a
sing -song led by Gail Manning.
The business part of the meet-
ing was conducted by the presi-
dent, Bill Cowan.
Following a short recreational
period led by Gordon Howatt,
Miss Clara McGowan, Blyth, gave
an interesting address on her
work with the Children's Aid
Society. Lunch was served.
The devotional part of the
meeting began with the singing
of Hymn 605. Edythe Beacom
read the scripture, June Man-
ning gave an explanation on the
picture "Hope of The World."
Edythe Beacom then read a poem.
The offering was taken up fol-
lowed by prayer. The meeting
was closed with the singing of a
hymn.
Mr. and Mrs, R, R, Stalker,A ,. Trip to Holland", was shown,
showing different kings of bulbs,
Mrs. Arthur Grange was the nar-
rater and Mr. Milne and Art
Youngblut were in. charge of the
projector.
An interesting demonstration on
arranging flowers was given. Miss
Marion Taylor demonstrated a
breakfast table bouquet; Mrs, Mc-
Ilveen demonstrated a -luncheon
table centre; Mrs. Mogridge a
dinner centre; Mrs, Ed Davies, a
living room bouquet and Mrs. W,
T. Robison and Mrs. R. J, Phillips
church bouquets. All the flowers
were beautifully arranged,
The meeting closed by.singing
"God Save the Queen", Refresh -
meats were served by Mrs. Roy
Easom, Mrs. Maurice Bean, Mrs.
Frank Raithby, Mrs, Wes Brad -
nock, Mrs. Fred Plaetzer and Miss
Viola Thompson.
Church Guild
The June meeting of St, Mark's
Anglican Church Guild was held
at the home of Mrs. Alf. Nesbit,
Mrs, John Deer presided. Prayers
were offered by Mrs. A. Nesbit
and Mrs. A. Kirkconneil read the
scripture. A solo was sung by
Mrs. William Haggitt accompanied
by Mrs. G. R. Taylor.
Readings were given by Mrs. Ed
Davies and Mrs. R, J. Phillips.
Miss Leta Daer rendered a solo
accompanied by Mrs, Frank Nes-
bit. Mrs. H, Eutvohistle, Guelph,
read a poem, .An address on the
"Coronation" was given by Mrs.
Tony Tonkowicz,
The business part was taken
over by the president. The roll
call was answered by a verse of
scripture containing • the word
"Thankfulness", A thank -you note
was read from Rev. and Mrs.
Bramwell. A recent visitor, Mrs.
Murray Wyatt, Kenora, expressed
her greetings to the Guild through
Mrs, G. R. Taylor. Rev. W. E,
Bramwell offered the closing pray-
er A coronation tea was served
by Mrs, Alf Nesbit and Mrs. John
Daer. Decorations were in the
coronation motif. A vote of thanks
to the hostesses was expressed by
Mrs. G. R, Taylor.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Craig and
family visited Mrs, Daphne Rean-
ey and son, Stratford, before the
latter's leave for tiotwood, New-
foundland, which Is Mrs. Craig's
home town.
Presbyterian ihurel'
Anniversary services will be held
in Knox Presbyterian Church next
bunday, June 21 at 11 a,m. and
7.30 p.m., when Rev. R. J. Mc-
Donald, Ripley, will be the guest
speaker. There will be special
music.
Other Ohurehes Withdraw
Because of the special events
involving both the anniversary and
re -opening of Knox Presbyterian
Church on June 21 the congrega-
tion of Knox United Church is
withdrawing the morning service.
The Sunday School will meet at
ten o'clock as usual. Services in
St, Mark's Anglican Church are
being withdrawn next, Sunday in
favor of Knox Presbyterian An-
niversary.
WMS
The June meeting of the Wo-
men's Missionary Society of Knox
Presbyterian Church was held at
the home of Mrs. Fred Ross on
Thursday. Mrs. F. O. Mcliveen
was in charge of the meeting with
Mrs. J. Houston presiding at the
piano. The meeting opened with
prayer. The devotional period was
in the charge of Mrs. Roy Daer
who led in the responsive reading,
gave meditation on same and of-
fered prayer, Mrs, Wes Bradnock
rendered a pleasing solo. Miss
Minnie Wagner reviewed current
events. Brown Milne favored with
two coronet solos, Mrs. J. W.
Graham contributed a reading.
The chapter in the study book
was taken by Mrs. W. Bradnoek,
Mrs. W. Good gave a report of the
meeting held in St. Paul's Angli-
can Church, Clinton. The offer-
ing was received and Mrs. Daer
offerd the dedicatory prayer. The
meeting closed with a hymn and
prayer by Mr, Milne. The host-
ess served refreshments.
Horticultural Meeting
A meeting of the Horticultural
Society was held in the Forester's
Hall with the president, Mrs. W.
T. Robison, in charge. . The even-
ing opened with a sing -song led
by Mrs. Gordon R. Taylor with
Mrs. R. J. Philips at the piano.
Tickets were drawn for corsages
which were contributed by Mrs.
Yiilliam Straughan and Mrs. R. J.
Phillips. Those receiving corsages
were Miss Olive Young, Mrs. F. O.
Mcllveen, Mrs, Albert Campbell
and Art Youngblut.
Mrs. Harold Eutwhistle, Guelph,
who is president of Guelph Town-
ship Horticultural Society, spoke
of the work their society is doing.

Mrs. Mex McGregor donated
yarn which will be used by the
members in knitting articles for
the fall bazaar, Mrs, Glenn Bell
was appointed convener for the
baking sale scheduled to be held
in the church. Mrs, J. B. Fox
ed with prayer. Lunch was
served
by Mrs, , Reid and her
group.
PORTER'S HILL
Grace Church, Porter's Hill, held
The Woman's Association of
its regular meeting on Thursday
last at the home of Mrs. D. Mc-
Dougall. The president, Mrs.
Donald Harris, was in charge of
the meeting which opened. with
singing "Jesus, keep me near the
Cross", and repeating the Lord's
Prayer in unison, The scripture
lesson was read by Mrs. John
McGowan and the roll answered
with an 'account of your wedd-
ing."
Plans were made for the booth
to be held in Goderich on July
12. Two crib quilts were quilted
during the afternoon.
The meeting closed with the
Mizpah • benediction and t h e
hostess served a lovely lunch.
The July meting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Reid Torr-
ance.

were memorial,. one in memory of
W. G. Bell and two members of
his family, F/Q Alvin Bell and
Miss Reta Bell; the other in mem-
ory of Mr. and. Mrs. Robert Mac-
Arthur. The memorials were do-
nated by members of the families,
Following the unveiling, Sydney
1VfacArthur, on behalf of the don-
ors, handed over the windows to
the minister, Rev. J. B. Fox, who
accepted and dedicated them to
the glory of God. Mrs, C. Ken-
nedy sang the solo, "Bless This
House", The rnstallation of the
new windows completes the num-
ber of decorated indows .in the
church sanctuary.
