Mrs. F. D. Hendrick, Birming-
ham, Mich„ was the guest of Mrs.
C. W, Brown from Wednesday un-
til Sunday while opening her cot-
tage, "Westwind", for the season.
Mrs. D. Dewar returned home
on Friday after having visited in
Kingston and Toronto. David De-
war motored to the village with
his mother and spent the weekend
here.
Mrs. M. Marshall, Islington,
came on Thursday to visit Mr. and
Mrs. A. W. Reid. Mrs, Harry
Reid, Bernard and Kathleen Reid,
Windsor, were also with them over
the weekend.
Mrs. R. J. Watson returned to
the village on Sunday evening af-
ter having visited relatives in
Waterloo and Kitchener, and the
weekend in Port Elgin with Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Erwin and family..
Mr. and Mrs. J. Cree Cook,
Clinton, are at their cottage at
The Poplars for the season. Mr.
and Mrs. L. A. Stephens and two
children, Jane and Mark, Toronto,
were with them over the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Morrow, To-
ronto, are guests at The Little
Inn. Mrs. C. Block and Mrs. Land,
Windsor, are alsa there for a few
days while the former is opening
her cottage in Bailey Park for the
season.
The. Rev. and Mrs, E. Carew -
Jones, Mrs. 5, B. Higgins, Mrs. R.
H. F. Gairdner, Mrs. C. Knuckey,
Mrs, Percy Weston, Mrs, E. Heard
and Mrs. R. Larson attended the
spring meeting of the Deanery of
Huron held in Trivett Memorial
Church, Exeter, on Monday,
Mrs. R. Williams and infant
daughter arrived from New York
a week ago Tuesday to spend the
summer with her parents, Magist-
rate and Mrs. F. G. McAlister,
who are at their home north of
The Highlands, for the season.
Lisa Williams has Miss been
with her grandparents for several
weeks, and their younger son, Al-
fred, a student at Emmanuel Col-
lege, Toronto, has been here since
the closing of college.
Trinity Church Guild
The regular meeting of Trinity
Church Guild was held at the
home of Mrs. E. A, Featherston
on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Lloyd
Scotchmer, president, was in the
chair, Following the usual reports,
plans were made for the July bake
sale. It was decided that all old
woollens being collected for blan-
kets should be turned in to Mrs.
Gairdner before June 20. Follow-
ing the benediction, pronounced by
Mrs. E. Carew -Jones, the hostess
served refreshments.
• Collision . at Square
On Sunday afternoon about five
o'clock a pick-up truck driven by
William T. Heard, malting a left-
hand turn off Highway 21, north
of Clan Gregor Square, towards
Main Street, and a 1938 coach
driven by William Peck, going in
the same direction, were in collis-
ion. The car driven by Peck is
said to have passed op the left
and side-swiped the Heard truck.
Fortunately no one was hurt.
Damages to the truck were esti-
mated at about $50 by Constable
George Little who investigated.
Both fenders of the coach were
badly damaged,

man's Auxiliary of St. Andrew's
United Church, Bayfield, was held
on June 4 at the home of Mrs.
Bert Dunn, Jr. The president,

The secretary's report was giv-
en and adopted as read, followed
by the treasurer's report. It was
moved by Mrs. Jean Scotchmer,
seconded by Mrs. Steckle to have
the annual July 1 supper. Collec-
tion was received. The ladies join-
ed in singing the WA theme song.
The .highlight of the • evening
was an auction sale of baking.
Mrs. Logan Cleave and Mrs. Lloyd
Makins were auctioneers and help-
ed make the sale profitable, The
meeting was. closed with the ben-
ediction,
en
edic ion and a delicious lunch t s hwas
served.
Poster Contest
Seventeen posters using the slo-
gan "Help Keep Bayfield Beauti-
ful" were submitted in the contest
amongst the local school children,
in the drive to keep Bayfield
clean. They all showed originality
in design, and some which dis-
played great artistic ability had
to be ruled out h the final selec-
tion owing to the pastel shades
employed. The first prize of a
dollar went to Charlene Scotch -
mer, and the second prize of fifty
cents went to Stanley Telford.
(These prizes were donated by a
rsident who organized the effort
but desires to remain anonymous).
Receiving honorable mention were
those done by Beverly Heard, Jef-
frey Heisler, Ruthann Scotchnier,
Ted -Turner, Howard Scotchmer
and Stephen Scotchmer. The post-
ers, all of which will be displayed
in various places in Bayfield some-
time during the summer, were
judged on a basis of originality of
subject matter, proper balance
and attraction.
Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bell ac-
companied Mr. and Mrs. E, Bell
and two children, Sylvia and Nor-
man, Clinton, to West Milton on
Friday to be resent for the golden
wedding anniversary of Mr. and
Mrs. William Powell. The bride
of 50 years, formerly Miss Edith
Bell, Goderich Township, is their
sister. About 300 relatives attend-
