Seventh Business Year. For
Ken Pickett Bob (ampbell
Bob was born in Clinton and
received his education here. Tie
worked at Ellwood Epps Sports
Shop before becoming cashier
at the Exeter plant of Canada
Packers. After five months at
Exeter he was moved back to
Clinton and worked here for
six months before he joined the
Canadian Army in February
1941,
As a gunner in the RCA he
reached the rank of Sergeant
and during his hitch in the array
was stationed iii Camp Borden,
Camp Shilo, Man., Terrace, B,C.,
and Petawawa,
Bob went overseas in July
1943 and landed in France early
on "D" Day with the 3rd Canad-
ian Infantry Division. He con-
tinued through the lowland
countries of Belgium, Holland,
into Germany and was near the
city of Oldenburg when the war
ended.
Returning to Canada, he re-
ceived his discharge in Decemb-
er 1945 and immediately resum-
ed his old position with Canada
Packers Ltd. On June 1, 1946,
he entered the present partner-
ship.
Bob married Kathleen Middle-
ton in June 1948 and they now
have one son, Robbie.
He is very active incivic and
church affairs being a member
of the Chamber of Commerce,
the local branch of the Canadian
Legion as well as a member of
the Board of Management of St.
Paul's Anglican Church.
0
Ken, the senior partner of
Pickett and Campbell, was born
, in Clinton. He received his ed'
ucation in ,town, attending Clin-
ton ei'ublic School and Clinton
District Collegiate Institute.
He joined the staff of Canada
Packers Ltd. in Clinton and was
with this firm for 12 years wor-
king in Clinton and Exeter
branches. When he was, with
this company he started to learn
the trade of butter -making but
left this for office work and be-
came accountant of the branch
at Clinton.
In August 1942 Ken joined
the Canadian Army at London;
he served for three years with
the RCOC in Canada, England,
and on the Continent. He re-
turned to Canada in February
1946 and received his discharge
in March of that year.
On May 1, he purchased the
clothing business of Plumsteel
Bros, and one month later sold
an Interest to his present part-
ner.
Ken married a Clinton girl,
the former Dorothy Steep, and
they now have three children,
Paul, Larry, and Nancy.
This member of Pickett and
Campbell is well known in sport-
ing circles, He has played base-
ball on the local Clinton inter-
mediate team and was a val-
uable member of the great Clin-
ton Colts hockey team in 1934-
35-36 when they were striving
to bring Clinton its first all -
Ontario hockey title. He was
a member of the Seaforth club,
along with several other Clinton
players, when the "Beavers" of
that town won the Intermediate
"B" crown in 1941-42.
Ken has been active in the
affairs of the Ontario Street
years and at the present3baa.A
United Church. He was treas-
urer for two years and at the
present time is a steward.
Modern Measuring Area
Pride and joy of both boys
is a section at the rear of the
store especially constructed to
serve as a measuring room. It
is not closed off entirely from
the store, but certainly gives an
illusion of complete privacy,
With the aid of the new adjust-
able cone shaped ceiling lights,
it will be possible to accent dif-
ferent displays of cloth and
styles at the whim of the prop-
rietors.
Stan McDonald, _Ethel,
Joined Staff Last Year
Stan became the salesman for
Pickett and Campbell in Novem-
ber of last year, and has been a
valuable asset to the firm. Stan
.was born at Ethel and received
his education in the schools near
there.
Salesman in a clothing store
was a new venture for Stan. He
previously had worked on the
payroll department of Timms
Construction and in the office of
Ethel Sales and Service, a gar-
age in his home town.
He has been very active in
church affairs. While in Ethel
he was assistant superintendent
of the Sunday School as well as
teacher of a class there. At
present he is the president of
the Young Peoples at Ontario
Street United Church.
A larger and better men's and
boy's clothing store for Clinton
and District, Pickett axil Camp-
bell, officially opens for busin-
ess on Saturday. This is the
biggest step yet taken by the
already successful six -year -old -
partnership.
Ken J. Pickett is the senior
member of the firm. He pur-
chased the business of .Plumsteel
Bros. on May 1, 1941, soon af-
ter his discharge .from the Cana-
dian Army, One month later
Robert "Bob" Campbell purch-
ased an interest and Pickett
and Campbell Men's and Boys'
Wear was barn, on June 1, 194e.
The partnership survived the
usual trials and tribulations
that plague a new firm, During
the past seven years they have
made great advances in the ap-
pearance of their store and the
quality and amount of stock
that they carry. For the past
two years they have had R,
"Roy" Fitzsimons as part time
salesman. Roy is well known in
RCAF and local circles and is
at present treasurer of the local
branch of the Canadian Legion.
In November 1952, Stan Mc-
Donald joined the staff as a full
time salesman, Customers can
be ,sure of quality and service
when they shop at Pickett and
Campbell, as the proprietors and
their staff have a wide know-
ledge of materials and styles
and they are always striving to
give their customers top value
for their money.
Such outstanding brands as
Warren K. Cook, Towne Hall,
Tip Top Tailors, Stanfield's, B.
•& F Sportswear, and many oth-
ers are to be found in this store
where the motto might well be
"Nothing But The Best For
Men".

Built-in Cold Storage
Once Housed Vegetables
Now Home for Coats
Another feature of the store
which Ken and Bob really had
not counted on, but which they
are pleased to take advantage
of, is a real honest -to -goodness
cold storage room, where they
can keep winter coats, and may-
be even furs, throughout the
long, hot days of summer, Or-
iginally installed by Mr. Shear-
ing, as a cold place to keep
vegetables and fruit, this small
room in the storage space at
the rear of the store is well in-
sulated, and fitted with a cool-
ing unit, motor for which is in
the basement.
