THE VOICE OF TEMPERANCE A few weeks ago a series of art- icles in a Toronto daily undertook to lecture Huron county about the liquor situation alleged to exist there. Stories about drinking by minors were offered as evidence of the failure of the Canada Tem- perance Act. Now comes • word that Mr. W. J. Cummins of the Victoria County Children's Aid Society, in a statement to the Kiwanis Club, reported that "four or five of every ten girls in Lind- say of 14 or 15 have been drunk or have been drinking". The point is that Lindsay and Victoria County are under the Liquor Con- trol Act. This shocking report is just further evidence that the Liquor Control Act is not protect- ing minor from the menace of strong drink. Maybe the friends of the Liquor Control Act, with its many outlets better set their own house in order, If the people of Huron are wise they will hol d on to the Canada Temperance Act which does not make strong drink so easily available for either old or young. D-Frost-O.Matie Ca., Dept 2 , 1Vevvtfatirt, Ont. 5.10-1'1a121b Cream Producers Boost Beef Breed Members of the Huron County Cream Producers Association meeting in the Agricultural Of- fice board room in Clinton with chairman Hume Clutton, Gode- rich, presiding, decided to give a grant of $5 to a class of beef heifer calves and $5 to a class of dairy heifer calves at any school fair in Huron County. Theopinion expressed was that a large percentage of butter is produced from beef cattle herds and that heifer calves in a school fair competition could be kept by the exhibitor to start a herd of cattle that would eventually pro- duce large quantities of butter, the same as the dairy heifer class. Secretary Gordon Greig was in- structed to seek the co-operation of Perth County Cream Producers in carrying on an advertising campaign to acquaint farmers of the value of supporting the plan for advertising dairy products. One cent per pound butterfat, is deducted during the month of June to finance an advertising campaign, for dairy products. Hume Clutton and James Simp- son, Seaforth, were appointed to the new Dairy Co-ordinating Committee, as representatives for the Huron County Cream Pro- ducers. Members decided again to af- filiate with the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, and Mr. Clutton is the director to the county organization.
