Mrs, Edward MacLeod and fam- ily moved to Seaforth last Thurs- day. Mrs, MacLeod was the recip- ient of a memorial gift from the Girls' Club of St. Andrew's Church on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Thomas Leppington, with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Leppington, Brucefield, visited in London last Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson. They also visited young Bobby Leppington in Victoria General Hospital, where he is re- ported doing as well as can be expected, following a severe eye injury received last week. Mrs. Charles Stewart is spend- ing this week in Toronto, the guest of her cousins, the Misses Ruth and Marjory McMath. She attend- ed the get-together and banquet of all the members and former members of the WMS Evening Auxiliary of Trinity United Church held in that church last Tuesday evening. Mrs. Stewart was a mem- ber of this society for a number of years while living in Toronto An interesting visitor at the Baptist Parsonage last week was Frank Gray, Winnipeg, Man. Letters of thanks were received and read, one of them from a member of the British Legion in England, who is now 70 years of age, who has been treasurer of his branch for years, who had re- ceivdd from Clinton Auxiliary; the first parcel from any organization, in his long life of service, His letter stressed gratitude to the Auxiliary. The flower committee report was made by the convener, Mrs. J. Butler, and stated that several sick comrades had been remembered with a flower gift. The committee, consisting of Mrs. J, E. Cook, Mrs. A. Haddy, Mrs. A. Inkley and Mrs. Gordon Lawson, will supervise the Satur- day evening bingo games for the month of April. A program of entertainment was provided with piano solos by Mrs. W. E. Radford; two, Irish soles by Mrs. Douglas Andrews, accompan- ied by Mrs. Vincent; harmonica numbers by Mrs. Bisback, accomp- anied by her mother, Mrs. Stur- geon. The Auxiliary voted $25 to the Scholarship Fund, providing aid in the university education of child - red of fallen or disabled veterans. A delicious lunch was served at the close of the meeting by Mrs. J. E. Cook and her committee. The next regular meeting will convene for the first time in the new Legion Hall. of the local Baptist Church and also of the Base Line (now Au- burn) Baptist Church. Mr. Gray expects to return to Ontario in July and August, and will prob- ably supply the pulpit in the Bap- tist Church in Clinton on the last Sunday of July, next. Andrew's Men's Club, a delightful. evening of entertainment was Pro- vided for the 200 odd persons who attended the showing of the film, "Ageless Britain"in" lastt Friday, March 6. Those attending were taken on a histeric sight-seeing tour, through- out many famous parts of Britain, to view the ancient cathedrals and churches, castles and quaint vil- lages, and ended with magnificent pictures pf London, the. metropolis of the Empire, and the famous scene, which for many centuries has been associated with Buck- ingham Palace, the "phanging of the guard." The film showing was not only entertaining but highly education- al and instructive and the produc- ers, Cavalcade Film Productions, under Fraser Fairlie, and T. Owen Jones, are to be congratulated on the production and Commended fur their admirable work. Words of appreciation were heard on every side, as the aud- ience left the church. Soil and Drainage Talk For Happy Doubles The Happy Doubles Club of Or;- tario Street United Church met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Colclough on Monday evening. De- votions were conducted by Roes Merrill, after which the regular business discussion took place. Mr. and Mrs, William Inkley gave a very interesting and in- structive talk on soil, drainage and gardening. Refreshments were served by Mrs. 3. Finck, Mrs. R. Wheeler and Mrs. R. Merrill. 0 LOBA HEARS REPORTS FROM BOOTH COMMITTEES The Ladies' Orange Benevolent Association met on Tuesday even- ing, March 10 for their regular business meeting. Two committees reported on receipts from lunch counters conducted at dances in Londesboro and Clinton lately, un- der the sponsorship of the Clinton LOL. The next regular meeting of the LOBA will be held in the lode rooms over the Clinton Public Lib- rary on Tuesday evening, March 24, Members of the LOBA have been•invited by Murphy Lodge, 710 to attend a party in the lodge rooms on March 17. 0 ONTARIO ST. MEN TO MEET MONDAY, MARCH 6 The regular meeting of Men's Club of Ontario Street United Church will be held on Monday, March 6, at eight o'clock. All members requested to come and bring a friend. Ont. St. WMS Plans Easter Thankoffering The Woman's Missionary Society of Ontario St. Church met at the home of Mrs. E. Radford with the president, Mrs. W, S. R. Holmes, presiding. The meeting opened with a hymn, a Bible reading and prayer. Roll call was answered by a verse on Faith. Mrs. N. Carter had charge of the devotional period. The secretary, Mrs, F. Townsend, read the minutes of the last meet- ing. Mrs. D. Carter gave the treasurer's report. Mrs. N. Sly, supply secretary, reported on the 330 pound bale sent to Korea, re- cently. Reports were given from the various committees. Mrs. Gilbank gave an interest- ing talk on "The Church of Christ in Angola" from the study book, "Along African Trails." Mrs. Eagle and Miss H. Courtice spoke on Christian stewardship. A piano solo by Mrs. E. Radford was enjoyed. ,The Easter Thankoffering meet- ing will be held in the church on April 1, with Mrs. H. Snell as guest speaker. The next regular meeting will be held on April 14, at the home of Mrs. 3. Radford. Mrs. C. Elliott thanked the host- ess for the use of her home, and all who took part in the meeting. Mrs. Holmes closed the meeting with prayer. MRS. J. SNIDER HOSTESS TO ST. ANDREW'S WA The Women's Missionary Society of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, will meet at the home of Mrs, John Snider on Tuesday, March 17. 0 Blyth WI Entertains Clinton WI Branch A chartered bus was forced to make two trips to take all the members of Clinton Women's In- stitute that attended a get-togeth- er with the Blyth Branch of the WI, held in Blyth. Following the opening exercises, president Mrs. Harold Phillips ex- tended a hearty welcome to the guests. The program included piano solos by Mrs. Ernest Rad- ford, Clinton; vocal solos self - accompanied on the piano accord- ion by Mrs. Willis VanEgmond, Clinton; piano solos by Mrs. John McDougall, Blyth. Highlight of the evening was a debate: "Resolved that living con- ditions in grandmother's day were more conducive to contentment than those of to -day" Mrs. Fred Oster and Mrs. Kenneth Taylor, Blyth, upheld the affirmative, while Mrs. Charles Elliott and Mrs. Ray Fear, Clinton, supported the negative side. Judges: Mrs. Robert Fairservice, Londesboro; Mrs. Van- Egmond, Clinton and Mrs. Frank- lin Bainton, Blyth gave the decis- ion as a tie. 0 Wesley -Willis Men Hear Rev. Dickinson Wesley -Willis United Church Men met on Thursday evening, March 5. Leslie Ball presided with Lester Martin acting as secretary. Rev. Howard Dickinson, Gode- rich, was the guest of the evening. Mr. Dickinson spoke of his ex- periences as pastor of the Com- munity Church at Deep River, On- tario. He also had some very int- eresting things to say about the commercial uses of radio -active materials. Six new names were added to the membership roll.
