McCallum opened the scoring one minute after the opening face- off as he whipped a fast shot past Nediger from in front of the net. Three minutes later Harry Mc- Ewan was left uncovered in front of the Milverton cage and rifled home a ten-foot shot. Bartliff re- ceived a penalty for hooking but the Colts checked very closely and Milverton couldn't get their power play working. Bartliff had just returned to the ice when Murray Colquhoun picked a loose puck up at centre ice and raced in on his opposite wing to fire a low shot into the bottom left hand corner to give the Colts a lead that they never relinquished. Milverton did tie matters up but May scored it the final minute of the period. Second Period Clinton took complete charge early in the second. Hanly counted once and McEwan twice to give the Colts a 6-2 edge as the Domin- ions seemed to crumble, under the continued pressure. Late in the period Milverton 'took over and scored two goals in the last two minutes as the Colts appeared very tired. , High Scoring Third Both teams pulled all the stops in the final period. A total of nine goals were scored, five to Milverton and four to the Colts. Milverton continually pulled with- in one goal of the Colts only to have the home team score again.. McCallum, C. Westman and J. Westman were the best for Mil- verton, scoring four times in the final twenty minutes; Counters two goals in the last minutes prov- ed to be the margin of victory. The genie although inclined to be rough, was very cleanly prayed. The referees, Robertson and Mc- Fadden from London are fast be- coming favourites with the local fans. These two officials are al- ways 'in complete charge of the game and the players and fans cannot speak too highly of them. Scoring Siurnriary First Period: Milverton, McCal- lum (C. Westman, J. Playoff Race Tightens, N Hamburg Whips Colts New Hamburg's play--off hopes were revived on Tuesday evening when they defeated Clinton's (fourth place) Colts in a hard- fought game played in New Ham- burg. The score was not a good indication of the play as the Colts were in charge for most of the game but they could-hot capitalize on their many opportunities. New Hamburg, although outplayed, scored most' of their goals on .breakaways. Ice conditions were not as good as usual, with the weather playing havoc with the natural ice. The men in charge of the New Ham- burg arena have been unable to get ice to any, depth and in some cases there is a space between the boards and the ice, making it impossible to carry the puck up the sides of the rink, this hindered both teams considerably. New Hamburg was paced• by the Boone-Honderich-McGee line who accounted for five of their goals and were always dangerous. Mur- ray Colquhoun led the Clinton at- tack 'with two goals, Wilson and McD,van notched the other mark- ers. Murray Colquhoun Stars Murray Colquhoun, who is play- ing his first season with the Colts was the scoring star of the Colts, as he fired home two first-period goals, These counters bring Mur- ray's total to five in the three games he has played and should serves as a warning to the other teams of the group that he will bear much watching. Both goal tenders Fere called upon to make many brilliant saves. Haunn had to be excep- tionally good in the first and last periods as the Colts fired shots at him from all angles. Nediger proved his worth in the second period when he outguessed Boone, Bingeman and Swartzentruber when they seemed to have him at their mercy. Monday night they suffered their sixth straight loss in as many starts when they bow- ed to Milverton 8-7 inAovertime. This was a game that was packed with excitement from start to finish and had the local crew been able to get one break they could have very easily recorded their first victory. Perhaps the most outstanding player on the ice was Tremblay, the Electras goaltender, who had the small crowd on their feet with his brilliant saves. Another stand- out for Clinton was Boulet,' a rug- ged defenceman who played prac- tically the entire game and 'broke up many dangerous Milverton thrusts as well as scoring one goal. The fans were hardly settled in their seats when Rochon, the diminutive wingman, sank the first goal on passes from Gilhen and Garrow. Twenty' seconds lat- er Gibson tied the count convert- ing Ross Kipfer's pass. Midway through the period Ayres got the gate and before he had returned to the ice Edmonds had scored, Didduck getting credited with an assist. Gilhen received a two-minute penalty for tripping when he dumped Gibson near the boards. Milverton then roared into high gear and before Gilhen had re- turned Gibson and McCallum had scored to give Milyerton a one- goal lead. Edmonds got that one back as Aimmummik CLINTON ARENA ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE NOR THE COMING WEEK Thursday, January 15 6.30 p.m.-MIDGET HOCKEY - Wingham vs. Clinton Lions Midgets. 8.15-10 p.m.-Public Skating Friday, January 16 6.30 p.m.-BANTAM HOCKEY - Exeter vs. Clinton Lions Bantams 8.15-10 p.m.-Public Skating Saturday, January 17 9.30-11 a.m.-FREE SKATING - Public School Children 2-4 p.m.-Public Skating 9.00 p.m.-HOCKEY-Int. Milverton really had things their own way in the second frame and the Electras were fortunate that they held the Dominions to three goals, Facing a three goal deficit in the Axial period the Electras made the most of every opportunity and scored three goals to tie the score and force an overtime period, This stanza had the partisan fans on the edge of their seats as the Electras battled to win in regula- tion time. Rochon very nearly be- came the hero in the final minute but he tipped Didduck's pass past the post with Gropp in the op- pbsite corner of the net. Boulet scored at the three-min- ute mark, of the overtime *period to give the Airforce team the lead for the first time since early in the game.
