Clinton District Collegiate In- stitute Red Devils opened the 1952-53 basketball season as hosts to St. Marys Red Raiders .on Fri- day, December 12. The powerful Clinton Juniors, led by D. Ladd and John Hartley with 14 and 13 points respectively, had little trouble winning 38-24. Major and Kennedy were best for the losers with nine and seven points respectively. Clinton Seniors unleashed a pow- erful offensive led by J, Wilson, who played brilliantly, to win 40-19. Mitchell, Oakes and Cole- man played well on the defence for the winners. Martin and Bod- enham with five each were best for the losers, St. Marys scored on three baskets with the other 13 points the result of accurate foul shooting. Gift .From Queen Elizabeth Thomas Richardson, a patient at the Riverside Nursing Home, Mitchell, for the past two years, and a complete cripple, is going to receive a new hopital bed from Queen Elizabeth, according to word received by Mrs. Mary J. Smith, matron of the home. Mr. Richardson, who will be 67 in January, was born in England and came to Canada in 1911, settling in Hensall, where he had lived ever since and where he was well known as a kind citizen. Mrs, Annie Richardson, his mother, who observed her 87th birthday in September, is very thrilled about it. — v OBITUARY MRS. MARY MacDONALD Funeral services were conduc- ted on Wednesday, December 17, by Rev. R. G. MacMillan, Knox Church Goderich, for Mrs. Mary MacDonald, 46, who died in Alex- andra Hospital, Goderich. Inter- ment was in Maitland Cemetery, Goderich. Mrs. MacDonald, was born in Greenock Township and spent her early life in Kincardine. She mov- ed owed to Goderich 26 years ago where she was a member of Knox Church, Before her marriage she was Mary A. Gordon and surviving be- sidqs her husband, John L. Mac- Donald, are four sons, Archie, Stratford, Frank, John and Wil- liam, Goderich; one daughter, Mrs. Ross Miller, Clinton. The cumulative output of creamery butter in Huron for the first ten months of the cur- rent year now totals 2,360,831 pounds as against 2,407,695 pounds in the corresponding ten months of 1951, a gain of 1,98 percent, Cheddar cheese production was substantially lower in October and also during the first ten months than in the comparative periods of the previous year.
