.. Fire Victims WIth Mrs. Heard*,
Mrs. Thomas Hewitt and 13ilhe,
aged five, London, .came on Mon-
day to visit her sister-in-law, Mrs.
Emerson Heard. Her daughter
Carol, aged thirteen, remained
with friends in London to finish
the school term. .The family ,lost
everything except the clothing
they were wearing; a few 'quilts;
one overcoat and the dog and cat
pulled from the flaming building,
when the suburban Base Line
Road house which they were oc-
cupying was destroyed by fire on
Thursday, November 27.
Mr. Hewitt, employed in Kitch-
ener on hydro conversion work,
was not at home. City 'firemen
did not answer the alarm as the
dwelling is outside the suburban
fire protection area and water is
not available in sufficient quant-
ities for fire -fighting purposes.
Trinity Church WA
The annual meeting of Trinity
Church WA was held' at the home
of Mrs. N. W. Woods on Thursday
last. The Rev. E. Carew -Jones
conducted the opening exercises
and Mrs. George King read the
scripture. 'Mrs. R. H. F. Gairdner
presided and welcomed the new
rector and his wife.
Mrs. R. Larson gave a compre-
hensive summary of the year's
activities. The treasurer's report
did not show as large a balance as
last year's but larger commit-
ments had been met.
Mrs. E. Heard read a letter
from the Rev. Douglas Pitt, St.
Paul's School, Blood Reserve,
Cardston, Alta„ acknowledging re-
ceipt of the bale. Owing to the
polio epidemic the school opening
was delayed this year.
At the request of the president,
Miss E. Cameron related an inter-
esting incident which illustrates
that after all the world is very
small. Mrs. E. Kerr, formerly of
Kincardine, came to the rescue of
a woman in danger of being put
off a bus in Vancouver when she
couldn't find her ticket, and paid
her fare. Sometime later this wo-
man made herself acquainted with
Mrs. Kerr as they came out of
Christ's Church Cathedral and she
learned as they rode home on the
bus together that Bishop Isaac
Stringer's widow, also a former
Kincardine resident, Iived in Van-
couver, and she obtained her ad-
dress with the intention of visit-
ing her.
Mrs. Kerr has been interested in
the work of Trinity Church Wom-
an's Association through her cou-
sin, Miss E. Cameron. Miss Cam-
eron also recalled that when a
student of Wycliffe Colley, Tor-
onto, Isaac Stringer had taken
charge of the Bayfield parish for
the rector, the late Rev. F. G.
Newton, while he was on a visit
to England. Later when he vol-
unteered for service in the Arctic
the WA of Trinity Church packed
a bale of comforts. Someone put
in a paper bag of dried apples,
The recipient, afterward Bishop
Stringer, wrote that when he
found the main diet of whale
blubber unpalatable, many a time
he blessed the good people of Bay-
field as he reached into that bag
or his pocket for some dried ap-
ples.
The Rev. Carew -Jones presided
for the election of officers which
resulted as follows:
Honorary president, Mrs. E.
Carew -Jones; president, Mrs. R. H.
F. Gairdner; vice-president, Mrs.
