The meeting was opened with a hymn. Miss Sybil Courtice took charge of the devotional, Minutes were read by Mrs, Alvin Lobb and the treasurer's report was given by Miss Emma. Plumsteel. "Mrs. Carman McPherson took charge of the program. Current events were given by Miss Eleanor Plumsteel. The speaker of the evening, Mrs. Clifford Epps, gave a very inter- esting talk on the fall planting of bulbs, A sing-song followed which was enjoyed by all present. The meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction. Lunch was served by Mrs. McPherson and Miss Rena Piekett's group. This is one of the seven draft tube forms which are part of the first stage of the $300 million Sir Adam Beck-Niagara Generating Station No. 2. At the right can be seen the cofferdam structure holding back the rushing waters of the Niagara River as workmen proceed on the placing of the draft tubes and the 592-foot steel penstocks. Over a quarter-of-a-million tons of rock were blasted from the 300-foot cliff face prior to work proceeding on this phase of the powerhouse' structure. This projett was visited recently by newsmen from Western Ontario. Private funeral service in Lud- ington cemetery, on Thursday, September 11. 0 Rev. B. F. Andrews, who was minister of St. Andrew's Pres- byterian Church, Clinton, prior to Rev. D. J. Lane's ministry, plans to make his home in Barrie. Three years ago, he left his ministry with the Presbyterian Church, Alliston, and he and his family have lived in South Am- erica since then, doing mission- ary work in Suddie, British Guiana. Rev. Mr, Andrews will return to Canada in November. Mrs. Andrews, who arrived with her children, in New York on Wednesday, August 13, is teaching at a school south 'of Barrie. Heather, their elder dau- ghter is attending Barrie District Collegiate Institute. O Wesley-Willis Church Goodwill Club Meets The Goodwill Club of Wesley- Willis Church resumed its activit- ies after the summer recess by meeting at the home of Miss W. O'Neil on Tuesday evening Sept- ember 9. The meeting was in charge of the president, Miss W. O'Neil. Miss M. Torrance played the piano. A hymn followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison opened the meeting. The scripture les- son was read by Miss W. Cook. The minutes were read by the secretary, Miss M., Steer* and the financial report given by the treasurer Miss L. Walkinshaw. A solo "Bless This House" sung by Mrs. D. Andrews, accompanied by Mrs. Vincent was enjoyed. The roll call was answered by "The biggest thrill enjoyed during the holidays." Mrs. M. Steepe gave a talk on the "Life of Queen Victoria." Mrs. Andrews fav- oured with another solo "God Understands". Mrs. F, Fingland gave a most interesting talk and showed picturers on her recent trip to Prince Edwrd Island, in- cluding a visit to L. M. Montgom- ery's "Green Gables?'" A hymn followed by the Mizpah Benediction 'closed the meeting after which some sewing was giv- en, out with Miss I. Walkinshaw in charge. "WEEKEND WITH FATHER" School Fairs Show Marked Increase In Popularity Here The popularity of Huron County School Fairs is growing yearly. Exhibits of grain, vegetables, live stock and various types of school projects, among competitors of school age, makes for great in- terest and lively rivalry. Last Friday at Hensall saw 500 in attendance at the opening School Fair with a parade of 155 school children led by the Ban- nockburn Pipe Band with 18 dec- orated bicycles and tricycles and a number of decorated doll carriag- es.
