Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Church-
ward returned to London on
Tuesday after having spent a
week's vacation at their cottage,
"Kearsney," Miss Lena Shortt,
London, was their guest on Sun-
day.
Mr, and Mrs. Cliff Utter left
on Monday to spend a two week's
vacation at Tinimins and other
pctints north. During their ab-
sence, Mrs. J. Fraser and Miss
Joan McLeod• are operating the
Cities Service Station,
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson
and Francis spent last week with
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sturgeon,
Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Sturgeon

the weekend. Gerald Sturgeon
accompanied them on their re-
turn to take a position in Preston.
Master Glenn Sturgeon return-
ed home recently after having
spent the Summer with his
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs Gordon Stewart, on their
farm near Kincardine. Mrs. Stew-
art motored to the village with
her brother and spent the day
here.
Friends here learned with re-
gret of the passing of Mrs. Charles
Schoefield (formerly Miss Minnie
Green, Bayfield) last week. The
tfuneral was held in Detroit, on
Saturday, September 6, 1952, She
is survived by her husband and
two sisters, Edith (Mrs. William
Stivens), Goderich, and Edna
(Mrs. Albert Carty) Detroit.
Miss L. Morley returned to her
cottage on Tuesday of last week.
She was accompanied by Mrs. K.
Moore, Traverse City, and Mrs.
Arthur Morley, Rochester, Mrs.

Baptism at Trinity
The rector, Rev. H. J, E. Webb,
administered the rite 'of Holy
Baptism on Sunday afternoon in
Trinity Church for the follow-
ing: David Edwin and Marilyn
Eertina, children of Mr. and Mrs.
Edwin H. Cotton, Vancouver, BC.
Their gcdparents were Mr. and
Mrs. 3. M. Stearns and Mr. and
Mrs. George F. Toms (by proxy).
Marjorie Catherine, infant dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L.
MacLeod, Goderich; Miss Dorothy
Ann McLeod Was godmother and
the parents also sponsored. And
one adult, Janet Marie MacLeod,
youngest daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. L. H. D. MacLeod, whose
sponsor was Mrs. R. H. F. Gaird-
ner.
Mr. and Mrs, Bruce Winter, Up-
per Canada Dr., North York, were
injured on Wednesday, September
3, when a CPR engine ,and tender
en route to Leaside yards collided
with their stalled auto, on "a level
crossing near Agincourt.
Mr, Winter told police that he

when the wig wag started, warn-
ing of an approaching train. "I
put the car in reverse" he' said,
"and started to back off the track.
I had only gone a few feet when ,the car stalled, leaving us sitting
in the middle of the tracks. I
guess I got panicky. I jumped
out and tried to drag my wife to
safety but the train hit before I
could move her, pinning her be-
hind the wheel."
The car, was thrown sideways
and down the track about fifteen
feet, Mr. Winter was thrown
clear by the car door, receiving
two fractures to his jaw and
knocking out three front teeth by
the blow, Mrs. Winter suffered
internal injuries. They were both
taken to East • General Hospital,
Toronto where Mrs. Winter is still
a patient. Mr. Winter was taken
to the home of his parents in Tor-
onto following an operation to set
his jaw.
Friends here hope that Mrs.
Winter who is a grand daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. George King, will
make a speedy recovery. Former-
ly Miss Helen Hart, Toronto, she
was married to Bruce Winter in
1950, and they were en route to
Ottawa, on the first holiday that
they have had the opportunity to
take since their marriage, when
the accident occurred.

The September meeting of the
Londesboro Women's Institute
was held in the •Community Hall
on September 3 with members

Shobbrook and Mrs. S. Lansing
were appointed leaders of the
Junior Girls' project this winter.
Members are requested to enter
their names as soon as possible if
they intend taking the short
course held in Elyth in October.
It was decided to cater to the
Hullett Federation of Agriculture
banquet to be held in October.
The treasurer reported over
$2(l0 had been cleared at the re-
cent bazaar,
Mrs, McKinnon and Miss Win.

representing the Clinton Hospital
Auxiliary arid asked for assist-
ance from the branch at a sec-
,and-hand sale they are holding
the end of this month in Clinton.
The Blyth ladies had charge
of the programme. Miss Marg-
uerite Hall gave two piano num-
bers. The Blyth ladies also pre-
sented a skit: "How to Avoid Old
Age". Mrs. Phillips sang a solo;
Mrs. Campbell also contributed a
solo and Mrs. Petts gave a read-
ing. Mrs. Taylor gave a mouth-
organ eeection.

ladies brought the meeting to a

Honour Bride-elect
The Londesboro Ladies' Bowl-
ing Club met at the home of
Mrs. .1. Shaddick on Tuesday
night and presented Miss Doreen
Armstrong, bride-elect, with a
walnut end table. Mrs. Allen
Shaddick entertained at a miscel-
laneous shower when about 50
guests attended. Little Beverley
Lee and Robert Shaddick present-
ed the gifts in a prettily decorat-

The roll call was answered by
eleven members and there were
three visitors. The Scripture
reading and prayer were given
by Mrs. Fred Lobb. The minutes
of the previous meeting were
read and adopted. •
The chapter from the study
book was taken by Mrs. I. Mer-
rill. The meeting was closed by
singing a hymn and repeating
the 'Mizpah benediction, The
hostess, assisted by Mrs. R. Jer-
vis, served a bountiful lunch.

WMS and WA Joint Service
The WMS and the WA are
holding a joint service in the
school room of the church on
Friday afternoon at two o'clock.
All are invited to attend. Please

Rally Day September 21
Rally Day services of the Unit-
ed Church have been postponed
from September 14 to September
21. This will be a joint service.
The Sunday School will occupy
the front centre seats of the
church and service will be at
the usual hour, 10 a.m.
Rev. Mr. Gandier will be' in
the pulpit next Sunday morning
at ten o cIock,• as usual. We ex-
pect Rev. Gandier will remain
with us as our minister through-
out the year.
