Clinton Colts advanced to the
group finals of the Huron-Perth
Baseball League with a convinc-
ing 8-1 win over Clinton RCAF
Flyers last evening.
• The Colts showed a complete
reversal of form from their pre-
vious game, making only two er-
rors which had no bearing on the
final score, behind Bob Carrick's
steady two-hit pitching. Bob also
helped his own cause along with
three hits, driving in three runs.
Clinton jumped into a two-run
lead in the second inning with
a home run by IVICEware a single
by Colquhoun a n d Carrick's
triple. They added another in
the fourth when Colquhoun got
on on a fielder's choke and Car-
rick doubled him home.
Three Runs in Fifth
The fifth proved to be the big
inning for the local team. Wilson
smacked a single to left, Draper
was safe when Jensen, the Flyer's
shortstop, tried to get Wilson go-
ing to third. McEwan walked to
fill the bases. Schoenhals laced
a double down the left field line,
scoring three runs. Clinton com-
bined two hits, three walks for
two more runs in the seventh
and they had two more in their
half of the eighth when the game was called.
"We one run given up by Car-
rick was in the seventh. Bob
walked two men and the Colts
playing things safe and protect-
ing their lead, retired two men
by fielder's choice, allowing the
run to score rather than eut the
runner down at the plate.

Flyers clashed in the second game
of their group semi-finals on 1Vion-
,day evening. The Colts, after
winning the first game by a wide
margin, were very fortunate to
come home with, a 7-7 tie.
The fielding of the local team
was very shaky as they committed
eight err= accounting for all the
Flyer's runs,
Eddie Palmadge and Doug,
Bartliff pitched four hit ball while
the locals banged out eleven safe
smashes,
Bartliff hit a home run in the
sixth with nobody on. Schoenhals
Craig and Wilson all were hitting
the ball at a merry clip for the
Colts,
Ironically enough the game was
saved from a Colt loss by two
sparkling fielding, plays, one by
Bill Craig when he made a great
catch of a low line drive in centre
field, The Flyers had three' men
on bases and a hit would have
meant at least two runs at the
time. The other play was a diving
stop by Woodcock in the eighth
with one out and a man on third
base. Woodcock's Stop held the
man on third and the next batter
lined to Bartliff to end the garne.

Clinton Colts pounded out a
convincing 13-2 victory over the
Clinton RCAF Flyers in the first
game of the Huron-Perth Base-
ball League playoffs,
Bartliff and Carrick on the
mound for the locals scattered
seven hits while their teammates
backed them up with a 12-hit
barrage.
The teams played scoreless ball
for two and one-half innings,
then Patterson (led off .in /he
Colts' half of the third with a
double to right field, Bartliff
walked, Woodcock grOunded out
short to ,first, Wilson flied to
centre, Craig walked, and Draper
banged a double to left centre,
good for three runs.
4th Inning Rhubarb
The Flyers ,got one run back
in the fourth, Fashay was safe
on an error. Tamarski hit a
ground ball to. Bartliff who tos-
sed to Schoenhals for the expect-
ed out but plate umpire O'Brien
ruled that Bud had dropped the
ball and the runner was safe and
the argument started. • The Colts
claimed that Bud had held the
ball long enough for the out and
that the ball was dropped only
when he was about to make a
throw to second base. The con-
troversy became so heated that
umpire O'Brien threatened to toss
the. next player out of the game
who spoke out of turn. Doug
Bartliff was the first one to
question his sincerity and he was
immediately thumbed to the
bench.
Bob Carrick took over the
mound duties at this point and
finished the game in great style,
allowing only two hits in the
five and two-third innings he
pitched.
Big 6th and 8th
After adding one more run in
the fourth the Colts really got
going in the sixth and again in
the eighth as they batted around
in both frames scoring five times
in the sixth and four more in the
eighth to sew the game up.

First Game
The first game, played on 'the
Clinton diamond was a free hitting
affair as far as the local girls were
concerned. They pounded out 10
runs on sixteen hits off the pitch-
ing of Taylor and McCoy includ-
ing tome runs by Shirley Proctor,
Ruth Glew and Barbara Brandon,
Maxine Hunking pitched a good
game allowing only three hits and

via the strikeout route. The lone
Exeter run was the result of four
