Funeral service for Cornelius
Hoare, 58, Clinton were held
Friday, August 15, from the Beet-
tie Funeral Home, with the Rev.
A. .glee, Eagle in charge. Inter-
ment was made in the Clinton
Cemetery,
Pallbearers were Wesley Sheba
bra*, Charles Stewart, Charles
Nelson, 3. A, Sutter, Hobert Irwin,
Howard Trewartba,
Mr. Hoare was born at Acton,
son of the late Mr. and Mrs,
Thbmas Hoare. He was married
el years ago to the former Eliz,
abeth Snell, Exeter, who died in
1920. '
in his early life he taught
school in East Wawanosh town-
ship, and later owned and operated
a musical instrument store in
Clinton. In later years he was a
fruit grower. and bee-keeper.
.Bromment in chereh circles; Mr,
Hoare was a regular attendant at
the Wesley-,Willis United Church
Clinton, He died on Wednesday,
August 13,
Surviving are three sans Cyril,
Pembroke; Austin, London; Cate
man, Clinton,

Funeral service was held Aug-
ust 15 for Mrs, Margaret Ann
McCartney, widow of Thomas W.
McCartney, who died on Wednes«
day at the home of her niece,
Mrs. A. Fletcher. Rev. R. M. P.
Bulteel, St . Paul's Anglican
Church, officiated, with interment
in Clinton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bert Murphy,
Harvey McCartney, Leonard Hun-
ter, William Cook, John Bourne
and -Harold Fremlin.
Daughter of, the late Mr. and
Mrs. Jacob Miller, she was mar-
ried at Wroxeter in 1906 and she
and her husband farmed in Gode-
rich Township before- coming here.
Her husband died in 1929.
Several nieces and nephews sur-
vive,
MISS ETTA WHEATLEY
Funeral service was held from
the F. E. Rowell funeral home,
Woodstock, yesterday, August 20,
for Miss Etta Wheatley, daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Wheatley, who died at the home
of her sister, Mrs. A. Stringham,
132 Riddell Street, Woodstock,
Interment was .in Clinton Ceme-
tery.
Miss Wheatley' was born in
Clinton, and lived here until
about ten years ago, when she
moved to Woodstock to reside
with her sister. She was a mem-
ber of Ontario Street. Church,
Clinton, and the Woman's As-
sociation there. She attended the
College Avenue United Church,
Woodstock, when health permit-
ted. She had been in ill health
for the past two years,
Besides her sister she is sur-
vived by a number of, nieces and
nephews.

of the last meeting were read and
adopted, also the treasurer's re-
port. It was decided to hold a bake sale in the near future, The

a cooking utensil mentioned in the
Mrs. Nesbitt invited the ladies to
her home for the September
meeting. An auptiion was later
conducted by Mrs. George RAM', ilton. Lunch was, served by the
hostesa assisted by her daughter
Mrs. S. Blake.

Birthday Meeting
The W.M.S, of Knox United
Church held their August and
birthday meeting in the Sunday
school room On Tuesday, August
5, with Mrs. Wilfred Plunkett in
charge and Mrs. W. J. Craig pre-
siding at the piano.
The scripture was read by Mrs.
Kenneth McDougal and prayer
was offered by Mrs. Harold Web-
ster followed by the Lord's prayer
repeated in, unison.
A piano instrumental was given
by Mrs. 5. McClinchey and Mrs.
John Durnin contributed a read-
ing, Mrs. Gordon McClinchey
gave a paper on Christian Stew-
ardship. A solo was rendered
by Mrs. Fred Plaetzer,
Chapter eight and nine of the
study book, dealing with
Evaligelistre Minister and
Immigrating Canadians to be,
was taken by Mrs. Harry Yung-
blue The Offering was received
and Mrs. Plunkett offered the de-
dicatory prayer. •
Mrs. Toll took charge for the
business period. The secretary
and treasurer's report.were given.
A reading "A Sign Post Poem"
was given by Mrs, Toll. The meet-.
ing closed with prayer, Lunch
was served by, the social commit-
tee.

The August meeting of Varna
WMS was held in the church.
Mrs. W. Webster opened the
meeting.
Mrs,. S. Keyes ,led in prayer.
Mrs. Fred Reid took charge of
the business. The minutes of the
previous meeting were read and
adopted, seconded 'by Mrs. R.
Taylor. The text word for Sep-
tember is "Harvest." There were
12 members, one visitor and three
children present, and we welcom-
ed new member into the society.
The Scriptures were read by Mrs.
S. Keyes. Mrs. W. Webster and
Mrs. F. Reid. Mrs. S. Keyes and
Mrs. H. Hayter gave readings
from the Home Mission Digest.
The meeting closed with hymn
