Presbyterian Groups
Have Joint Meeting
A joint July meeting of the
Women of St."'Andrew's Church,
Clinton, and Knox Church, Bay-
field, proved to be a delightful
meeting of fellowship, and interest
in the same great missionary work
of the Presbyterian Church in
Canada.
The women gathered in Knox
Church, at 3:00 o'clock and Mrs.
Anna Brown, President of Bay-
field conducted the regular bus-
iness of the local society as a de-
monstration of the manner in
which a regular meeting should
be conducted.
The program then fell into the
hands of St. Andrew's Society,
with Mrs. Robert McKenzie,
president, in the chair.
Mrs. McKenzie opened the joint
meeting with a beautiful scripture
meditation and prayer.
Mrs. James Makins followed
with current events, in most in-
formative manner, with Mrs. John
Snider reading scripture passages.
Mrs, D, J. Lane, filled with en-
thusiasm from the inspiration re-
ceived at the recent Synodical
meeting of the society brought to
the women many of the high-
lights of• that meeting.
After the meeting, the Bayfield
Ladies entertained St, Andrew's
at a social hour and served a de-
licious lunch at the home of Mrs.
Joseph Richardson, near t h e
church, which she graciously of-
fered for the-occasion.

It has been a long time since
there has been a 1-0 ball game in
Clinton, but that was just what
the local fans wee treated to on
Frid.ay laat when the Mitchell
Jaegronaires and the Clinton Colts
hooked up in a desperate struggle
which saw the Colts emerge vic-
torious by the narrowest of mar-
Bartliff and Hully were masters throughout. Doug. allowed five
scattered hits and gully four.
Error Decides Game
After two men had gone down
via the strikeout route Bartliff
singled, Woodcock then singled to
right field and as Bartliff raced
for third base, Bobby Gaul (the
Milverton hockey star) attempted
to throw him out at that bag. The
throw got away from Gatenby,
the Mitchell third baseman, and
Bartliff crossed the plate, This
was the only break of what was
almost a perfect ball game and
the Colts made the run stand up
as they played errorless ball be-
hind excellent pitching.
One feature of the game was a
sparkling double .play that erased
a Mitchell threat in the sixth in-
ning, Gatenby doubled with one
man out. Gaul grounded to
Woodcock, who bluffed Gatenby
back toward second base, then
threw Gaul out at first. Gatenby
raced to third and rounded that
base going about ten feet down the
baseline toward home. Scheen-
hals fired the ball across the dia-
mond to Johnny Wilson who cov-
ered the bag and the Mitchell
player was tagged out.

Dashwood 3 Clinton 3
Dashwood has long been an
nemesis for the Clinton Colts and
Tuesday night was no exception
as the southern village stopped
the winning streak of the locals
at six victories taking a close 3-2
decision. The Colts outhit their
opposition nine to five and threat-
ened to score on several occasions
only to have Stormes tighten up
and retire the side.
The Colts scored both their runs
in the second inning after two
were out. Coiquhoun walked, Pat-
terson hit a double scoring Col-
quhoun, Carrick then singled and
Patterson romped across the plate,
Dashwood was held scoreless
until the fourth. Jim Hayter led
off with a single to right but was
thrown out Draper to Wilson, as
lte attempte0 to stretch his hit
into a double. Bill Hayter beat
out a bli which Itietwan stopped
deep behind second but was too
late to throw him out at first.
Wein bunted safely, Stormes and
Reiger walked Klieoativer ran
the count to three and two and
then drove a double to deep right
centre scoring three men which
was the margin of victory.
The Colts threatened in the
fifth and would have scored the
tieing run but Bob Carrick trip-
ped as he rounded third base on
his way in to score and this en-
abled Geiser, the left fielder, to
throw him out at the plate, 'Again
in the ninth the locals filled the
bases only to; have Stormes strike
out Woodcock and get himself
out of trouble.
Stormes and Carrick, both left
handers, pitched equally well, each
striking out eight batters, while
issuing fotir walks.
For the benefit of the local
baseball fans. The Colts are play-
ing a remarkable brand of ball,
Their fielding, which has long
been their downfall, has been
faultless for the past five games.
So come out to the local ball yard
on Thursday evening when the
Clinton RCAF are the visitors.
You will not only have an enjoy-
able evening of baseball but you'll
help the local boys with your pat-
ronage.
