Mr, and Mrs, Harry Thornton and Norman, Hamilton, are spending a week's vacation with 'Mr. and Mrs. Alex Paterson. Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Cornish; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brock, Exeter, spent the weekend at Chesley Lake just north of Southampton. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Dunn spent the weekend in St. Catharines visiting the latter's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Austin,Zapfe, De- troit, spent the weekend with the former's mother, Mrs. Harry Zapfe, and with the latter's par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Swan. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Smith, FAluevalee Mr!. and Mrs. John Wickstead, Brussels; Mr. and Mrs. George Griffiths and family, Stratford, visited with Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Elliott last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Munn, Richard, Karen, Margaret and Julia, spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs, W. V. Dinnin, Brucefield. Mrs. Munn and the children remained for a few days' vacation. Mr. and Mrs. James Myron (nee Margaret Moffatt), and daught- ers, Norman and Ruth, Moose Jaw, Sask., are visiting cousins on the second concession of Stan- ley, and Mrs. Myron's aunt. Mrs. Simon McKenzie, Brucefield. Brucefield WMS Meets The regular meeting of the WMS was held in, the school- room of the church • with Mrs. R. Allan, president, in charge. Miss E. Bowey acted as secre- tary in the absence of Mrs, A. Haft. Mrs. N. Walker had charge of the devotional period which was in keeping with the programme, "Dearth on the Earth." The program in charge of Mrs. T. B. Baird was in the form of a play and showed the many ways the less fortunate may be helped. She was assisted by Mrs. A. Zapfe, Mrs. W. Scott, Mrs. A. McQueen, Miss E. Bowey and Mrs. N. Walker. A. hymn and prayer by the president closed the meeting. United Church S.S. Picnic' Chilly weather following rain made the picnic of Brucefield United, Church Sunday School rather more pleasant than if held a few days previous. The event was held at Jowett's Grove, Hay- field, on Wednesday afternoon, July 9, with a good attendance. The sports committee of four, Mrs. Murray Squires, Miss Eva Stackhouse, Robert P. Allan and Stewart Wilson conducted a full program of activities. Supper was served by the ladies of the con- gregation. Winners of sports events were: Races—children five years and under, Brian Triebner, Jack Walker, Sharon Burdge; girls eight years and under, Carolyn Ross, Helen Broadfoot, Barbara Henderson; boys eight years and under, Ralph Triebner, Gerry Baird; boys 11 years and under, St, Augustine, in St. -Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Weds nesday, july 2. Mary is survived by a brother Philip and her parents. Leadeth Me, 0 blessed Thought", followed by prayer poem by Mrs. Lloyd Bond. Mrs. Jack Yoe read, the scripture, John 3-10-21 and Mrs. Ninian Heard read an article on Temper- ance, The hymn "Softly and Ten- derly, Jesus is Calling" was sung and then the meeting Was turned, over to the Rev, M. S. Newton, who spoke to the group, taking as his topic, "The Light of the World" based on Holman Hunt's picture of the same name. The meeting closed with Rev. Newton singing the first verse of "Knock4 ing, Knocking, Who Is There," the women Joining in, in the last two verses. Before the W.A. meeting started, Rev. Newton showed slides of different pictures he has taken of several beauty spots around Hplmesville. With the president, Mrs. Ed- ward Grigg in the chair, the W.A. meeting opened with the Theme song, and repeating the Creed in unison. It was decided to have the W.A. picnic at the home of Mrs. Harry Cudmore on. July 16. It was also decided that the roll call, at the August meeting, was to be answered with an article for the "Touch and Take" booth at the bazaar on October 18. The meeting closed with the singing of "0 Master Let Me Walk With Thee," and prayer by Mrs. Grigg. He was the eldest son af the late John and Catherine Mc- Naughton, Bayfield Road (at Ban- nockburn) Varna. Born in Stanley Township, he tilled the farm taken up by his father in 1832, for over 40 years •-•-4.-54-411-0-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-5-4-4- until his retirement to London in 1920. A former reeve and councillor of Stanley Township and also on the Huron County Council for sev- erer years, he was the laSt sur- viving member of the 21 members comprising the 1906 Huron Coun- ty Council. A short service conducted by Rev. H. E. Merifield, St. James (Westminster) Church, in the Geo, E. Logan and Sons Funeral Chap- el, was held on Monday, July 14, 1952, to Trinity Anglican Church, Bayfield, where Rev, H. J. E. Webb conducted a ,prayer service. Mr, McNaughton was a warden in Hayfield Church over 60 years ago when the late Rev. F. S. New- ton (father of 'Mrs. Ray Lawson, wife of the former Governor Gen- eral of Ontario) was. Rector. In his absence one summer the Rect- or in charge was the late Arch Bishop Stringer. Survivors include a daughter Kathleen McNaughton, at homb and a sori Ritchie, both of Lond- on; one granddaughter, •Margaret, at present in Toronto; one broth- er, David, Hayfield; four sisters, (Margaret) Mrs. James Johnston, Goderich Township; (Catherine) Mrs. sT. D. Leslie, Saratoga, Calif.; (Maud) Mrs. Sydney. Jackson, (Charlotte) Mrs. E. A. Sharman, bath of Lethbridge, Alberta; a son William, member of 161st Huron Regiment, was killed in action in France Nov. 1918 during the- First World War. London pall bearers were Tom Owen, Wilfred Reynolds, John Lutman, Charlie MacKenzie, Char- les Steele and Geo. McCormack.
