Murdoch, Clendon Christie underwent an operation in Clinton Public Hos- pital last week and is once again at work in his .general store in the village. Brian Finlayson was struck in the left arm with flying glass spent Alice when a window near which he Was standing was broken acci- dentally. Nine were re- nuked to close the wound. Miss Marne Swan. and Mrs. Alice Ham left on Tuesday with Mrs. Ham's sister-in-law, Mrs, Pritchard, Toronto, on. a motor trip to' Vancouver, where they will attend the wedding of Mrs, Pritchard's son. S.S. No. 10, Stanley, was the scene of a pretty shower, Tuesday evening, July 8, in honour of June Taylor bride-elect of this Month. Mrs. Allan Hill read an approp- riate address and the gathering settled down to 'play bingo, num- bers for which were called by Mrs. Norman Baird. -When an alarm clock sounded, playing was stop- ped while the guest of honour searched for her gifts, and opened them. June expressed her thanks for the great variety of useful gifts in a few well chosen words. - An impromptu Wedding was stag- ed in which Alice Caldwell played the bride and Ann McCowan was flower girl, The bride was given away by her father (Ruth Snell- ing), to the• accompaniment of sobs from her mother, (Verna Eyre). The bridesmaid was Jean Rathwe]l, and the groomsman, Ina Taylor. The groom was Elaine Taylor and 'officiating minister, was Leola Taylor. Wedding music was provided ,y Mrs. J. R. Murdock who rendered the classic "She'll be Coming Round the Mountain" and as a finale, "The Dead March in Saul." / Lunch was served and a social half hour was enjoyed. LONDON ROAD 5-• •-A-5-4. London Road Club Meets . Thirteen members and one visitor gathered at the home ,of Mrs. Cecil Cooper for the June meeting of London Road Com- munity Club. The sliming of "0 Canada" opened the meeting, followed by the Creed. The roll call was- answered and minutes of the last meeting were read. Thank you notes were read, and two of the- members present thanked the club for remember- ing them during their past ill- ness. The treasurer's report was given. It was decided to make a donation to' the "Polio and Crippling Prevention Founda- tion". The mystery box was won by Mrs. Fred Anderson, Jr. The program consisted of an entertaining spelling contest con- ducted by Mrs. Joseph Clegg. Mrs. Managhan and Mrs. Watkins won the two first prizes. Mrs. Clegg also read several interest- ing selections from "The Don Mc- Neil Breakfast Club Book." The meeting closed with the singing of "God Save Our Queen" after which a lovely tea was served by the hostess. The next meeting will be held on September 4 at the home of Mrs. Fred Anderson, Jr. The roll call to be "' A well-known Can- adian." 0 SROI Course No. 4 LOL NOTES day during an informal cere- mony. G/C E. A. D. Hutton, CD, CO at Clinton presented the cer- tificates of achievement to mem- bers of the course which was the fourth since the SROI was first started in April 1951. The graduates, who are all senior radio officers, who have seen much of 'World War H action are now well qualified to take their places in the expanding RCAF. They have received spec- ialist training in all phases of electronics and have undergone a comprehensive instruction in staff duties which encleded instruc- ional techniques, service man- agement and public speaking. Mr. and Mrs. George Woods, their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Royal Cooley, De- troit, are vacationing at the for- mer's summer home. The Aimwell Mission Circle entertained the missionary babies and their mothers in the basement of Londesboro United Church, on Saturday afternoon, June 28th.. The theme for the afternoon was "The Christmas Home." -The meeting opened by the singing of Hymn 609. Edythe Beacom and Lois Wood each read passages of scripture. Ruth Vincent read a story and Ruth Shaddick led the group in prayer. The ()flexing was then taken. Mrs. Fangrad gave a chapter of the Study Book, following which the Londesboro Ladies' Trio sang a number. Farewell messages and gifts were given to Mrs. Brenton and Vera Lyon. The trio again favoured with a number and the meeting closed with Hymn 605 and the Mizpah Benediction. Everyone then enjoyed a dainty lunch served by' the Mission Circle members.
