Dr. Reeeroft Coming
The Varna United Church Paste
oral Charge will be visited on
Stewardship Sunday, May 18, by
the president of the London Con-
ference, Rev. Dr. W. A. Beecroft,
Winghani He will conduct ser-
vices at Varna at 10.15 a.m. and.
Goshen, at 11.30 a.m.
Mother's Day Service
Mother's Day services were ob-
served at both Varna and Goshen
United Church services on Sun-
day last, There were baptisms
at both services also. There were
good congregations present. This
"Festival of the Christian Home"
as "Mother's Day" is by many
better known, retains its popular-
ity, and it cannot fail to exercise
a helpful influence where it is
obeerved:
Enjoyable Meeting
Varna and Goshen YPU were
the guests of the Bayfield group
on Friday, May 2. A very en-
joyable and. helpful meeting was
held, Before it closed refresh-
ments were served. More than 20
young people represented the
visiting group from Varna and
Goshen.
Rev. T. J. Pitt, in the unavoid-
re•-•••••••••
able absence of the president,
thanked the Bayfield YPU for
the privilege of meeting with
them, and for their hospitality.
Temperance speaker
Varna United Church Pastoral
Charge was visited on Sunday,
May 4, by 3. E. Williamson, rep-
resenting the Ontario Temperance
Federation.
At the Varna and Goshen ser-
vices, Mr. Williamson drew atten-
tion to Canada's enormous drink
bill and contrasted it with the
arnpunts, given to the Canadian
churches, the latter being one-
fourth of the former..
The alarming increase in traf-
fic accidents directly due to
alcohol, the increasing number of
young people who drink alcoholic
beverages 'should, the speaker
felt, make the adult members of
the church more fully awake to
their responsibilities. There were
good congregations present at
both services,' and offerings were
received for the Federation.
