The many friends oa Mrs.
George ,Heald, wlio was taken to
Alexandra and Marine Hospital,
Goderich last week, suffering
from virus pleurisy, will be glad
to know she is improving. We
wish her a speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sturgeon and
Jerry and Mr. and, Mrs. Frank
Anderson and Francis, Mitchell,
spent Sunday in London. On their
return they were accompanied by
Mrs. Sturgeon's sister, Mrs. Louis
Peifer, who will spend this week
with her.
LAC and Mrs. Legaarden and
two children who motored from
Nanaimo, B.C. in five days, are
occupying one of the Jowett cot-
tages. LAC A. C. 'and Mrs.
Wyndham and three children also
from Nanaimo have taken a
Jowett cottage.
Mr. and Mrs. Alf. Scotchmer,
Sr., Mr. and Mrs. E, A. Westlake,
accompanied by Mrs. George Reid,
attended a birthday dinner in
honour of Thomas Westlake at
the latter's home on the Blue
Water Highway, Stanley Town-
ship, on Saturday evening.
Recovering at Mine
Master George Webb, son of
Rev. and Mrs. H. J. E. Webb, is
recuperating at home• after hav-
ing undergone a tonsilectomy in
Clinton Public Hospital on Thurs-
day last.
Successful Sale
A very successful baking sale
was held at the home of Mrs. R.
H. F. Gairdner on Saturday when
the sum of $15 was realized for
the Trinity Church Sunday School
Lenten offering, The dining room
was beautifully decorated. Yellow•
tapers flanked an attractive East-
er table centre, and an Easter
lily 'graced the room. Mrs. R. H.
P. Gairdner and Mrs. J. E. How-
ard were in charge, assisted by
Misses Joan and Helen MacLeod,

Sympathy Extended
The news of the automobile
collision near Cooksville in
which James A. Cameron and
his Son, Evans, were so serious:
ly injured, Murdo 'Graham, Lon-
don, killed, and the other five
passengers in the latter's car all
injured, spread like a pall over
the village on Good Friday and
shadowed the Easter joy. Mrs.

ed in St, John's Anglican Church,
Varna, at 7 pm, by the rector,
Rev. H. .7, E. Webb.
Easter Day services at Varna
and. Goshen United Churches
were very well attended by re-
cord congregations in spite of
weather which was far from
Easter-like. Both services were
conducted by the minister, Rev,
T, J, Pitt.
At Goshen six persons were re-
ceived on profession of faith and
one by certificate, whilst at Var-
na, 24 were received on profes-
sion of faith, and four by certifi-
cate.
The Sacrament of the Lord's
Supper was, administered .at both
services, There was appropriate
Easter music.

when 35 guests were entertained.

flood, their usual route on US 2
through the States was closed
and they were forced to travel

Bismarck, North Dakota, was
the city worst hit by the Missouri
river that they saw on the trip.
The land is flat, and the farm
lands were inundated. It was a
horrible sight which they wish
never to see again. Many houses
have been toppled, and in many
places on the highway were the
pitiful heaps of furniture salvag-
ed from the greedy floods.
On the way through Michigan
on Saturday night, they just •mis-
ged a 10-inch fall of snow, which
had melted by the time they got
there.
