state the cause of death. Mr.
PePPer had previonsly suffered
from a weak heart, but had not
been known to have faint spells.
Surviving besides his mother
are: three sisters, Molly, Mrs.
George Pinkney, Walkerton;
Grace, Mrs. Elgin Thompson,
E4ppen; Doreen, Mrs. A, J. Must-
ard, Brucefield; and six nieces
and nephews. There are no other
relatives in• Canada.

Funeral service was held,' 'at
the home of Norman Walker,
second concession Of Thckersmith
Township, on Saturday, 'March
22, for Isabella McQueen, widow
of the lite James Walker. Rev.
W, 3. Maines, Brumfield 'United
Church, performed the ceremony.
Interment was in Baird's Ceme-
tery.
Pall-bearers were Hugh Walk-
er, Jack Caldwell, Charlie Lane,
Wallace Haugh, David' Papple,
and Wilsim Armstrong.
Mrs. Walker was born on the
London Road, just north of
Brucefield. After her marriage
they lived. in that vicinity and
Clinton, until Mr. Walker's death
in 1937. Mrs. Walker was a
member of Brumfield United
Church.
Death came suddenly on Thurs-
day morning, March 20, at the,.
home of her son, Norman, Tuck-
ersmith Township.
Surviving are two sons, Nor-
man, and James, Brandon, Man.
A son, Roy, Brucefield, prede-
ceased her in 1933 ,and a daugh-
ter Mary, Mrs. Frank Wilson,
Brucefield, predeceased her in
7948. .'
Attending the funeral were Mr.
and. Mrs. James Walker, Brandon,
Man.; Mr. and Mrs. William Mc-
Queen, Cass City, Mich., and a
niece, Mrs. Elsie Forest, London.

known and lifelong farmer of
Stanley Townhip, passed away in
St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
Saturday, March 22, in his 74th
year. He had been a patient
there for two weeks prior to his
death. •
Born in SfanIey Township, he
was the second brother of the
family to pass away in the past
'apse montns, his brether, Robert
McBride, Kirmen, having passed
away in December 1951.. He was
a member of Blake United
Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
Reta Taylor, Exeter; one son,
Lloyd McBride, Detroit, Mich.;
two brothers, John, Zurich; James,
Stanley; three sisters, Mrs. Alvin
Nicholson, Saskatchewan; Mrs.
Ma:id Schnell, Edmonton, Alta.;
Mrs. C. Stephenson, Hansel'.
Funeral services were held from
Goshen United Church Tuesday
atternoon, March 25, condected
by Rev. T. 3. Pitt, minister of
Varna United Church, Interment
was in Bayfield cemetery.

they leave for their home in
Myth where Mr. Knox has pur-
chased an egg-grading business.
Highlight of the evening was the
presentation of a table and lamp.

BRUSSELS-A variety concert,
sponsored by Brussels Lions Club,
attracted an overflow audience
at the town hall. Proceeds will
help children's welfare work in
the community.

A largely attended. funeral ser-
vice was held. inBrucefield Unit-
ed Church, on Monday afternoon,
March 24, for William Elliott
Pepper, well-known Stanley
Township farmer, in his 43rd year.
Rev. W. J. Maines officiated. Mrs,
3. R. Murdoch sang "City. Four-
Scpaare;" Interment was made in
Baird's 'Cemetery.
pall-bearers were: William Mc-
Lachlan, Jack Murdoch, Fred
Rathwell, Lloyd Thompson, Jack
Aikenhead, and D'Arcy Rathwell.
Flower-bearers were: Alvin Mc-
Bride, Ernest Talbot, Aubrey
Farquhar, and Robert Spier.
Attending the funeral in a
body were the members of the
Brucefield IOOF Lodge. At the
cemetery the• lodge members con-
ducted an impressive service un-
der the directorship of Fred
Boyce and John Aldington.
Mr. Pepper was born in Eng-
land, the son of Mrs. Pepper and
the late W, H. Pepper. He came
to Canada at the early age of
three years, and with his parents
took up residence near Lucknow.
For the past 23 years the family
home was on the second of Stan-
ley, near Brucefield.
Mr. Pepper always will be
remembered for his help to nei-
ghbours and friends in need, giv-
en freely without thought of
reward.

Deceased always had been ac-
tive in church and lodge work,
finding in them his recreation
and enjoyment. He had. been at
one time h' manager on the
Brucefield United Church board.
At the time .of his death he was
fulfilling his term as Noble Grand
of Brucefield IOOF Lodge.
Last Thursday evening he had
attended the regular lodge meet-
ing and had taken his part well.
He remained after most of the
members had -left, chatting with
two or three of the men. He
appeared to be in his usual health
throughout the evening. He drove
home as usual and retired to his
room. Early the next morning
Mrs.. Pepper called him when he
did not come downstairs as early
as expected, and when she re-
ceived no answer, went to his
