All mem- bers of the family were present. h e grandchildren ..stogod a mock wedding. The honoured couple were then presented with a trilight lamp from the family. Lunch was served and proceeds go to the Women's Association of Grace Church. MRS. JOHN YOUNG Mrs. John Young, 83, died at her Dome in Goderich on Mon- day morning, February 25. She was formerly a well-known rest- ; dent_of Colborne Township, and lived there until moving to God- erich four years ago. Formerly Elizabeth Fisher, she was a daughter of the rite Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Fisher. Her husband died two years ago in Goderich. She was a member of Victoria Street United Church. Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Sohn Patton, Colborne Township; Mrs, Frank Wilson and Miss Ruby Young, Goderich; and Mrs. Stanley Todd, •Egmondville. A funeral service was held at the family residence, Elgin Ave., Goderich, Wednesday afternoon, February 27, conducted by Rev. D. W. Williams of Victdria St. Church. Interment was in Col- borne cemetery. MRS. JOHN MIDDLETON After an illness of several months, Mrs. John Middleton •pas- sed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Garrett, Edgewood, on Wednesday, Feb- ruary .6. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. G. C. Baymer, assisted by her nephew, Rev. John. R. Thompson, Windsor, was held at the C. Haskett & Son funeral home, Lucan, on Friday, Febru- ary 8. Pallbearers were five grandsons: , Don Middleton, Ken- neth Garrett, Jr., Jack and James Middleton, London, Robert Gar- rett and one nephew, William Sherritt, Blanshard. Interment was made in Birr Cemetery. Mrs. Middleton is survived by her husband; two daughters: (Leta) Mrs, Kenneth Garrett, Grantor; (Stella) Mrs. Thomas Walne, London; two sons: Earl, of Edgewood, Alvin, London. Mrs. Harry J. Thompson, Goderich Township, Mrs. Roy Sherritt, Grantor are sisters; there also are a sister and two brothers in the West. Fifty-four years ago Mr.' and Mrs. Middleton were married and lived on concesion 16, London Townhip. Thirty-seven years ago they moved to the Middleton farm between Grantor and Edge- wood where they farmed exten- sively until five years ago when Mrs. Middleton's health failed, at which time they retired to Lucan. At the regular meeting of the Boy Scouts, held on Monday evening, plans were made for the spring salvage drive to be held approximately March 15. Winners were: Ladies' first,. Mrs, Alton Johnston; sec- ml, Mrs. Simon McKenzie; men's first, J. R. Murdoch; second,-Ken Mrs. Middleton, a promoter of Institute work, organized Insti- tutes in Granton, Birr and Pros- pect Hill. Through ' her public mindedness, she was responsible for Grantor's memorial, Grant- on's public library, and the. bring- ing of the first music teacher to Granton public school. In spite of her great citizenship, she al- ways kept her church foremost in her mind. CORNELIUS COOK (By our Hensall correspondent) Funeral services were held for the late Cornelius Cook from the Bonthron funeral home, Hensel', Saturday, February 23 at 2 p.m. Rev, W. J. Rogers, minister of the United Church conducted the service and paid high tribute to his life. Members of the United Church, of which Mr. Cook was a faithful member for over 40 years, attended. Interment was in Exeter cemetery, Pallbearers were George Hess, Lloyd Venner, William Fairbairn, Douglas and Robert Cook, Hen- sail, and Kelso Streets, Clinton, The casket and grave were bank- ed with numerous beautiful flor- al tributes. Mr. Cook, prominent business- man and miller here for 45 years died at his home Thursday, fol- lowing a lengthy illness. Born in Ellice Township, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cook. When 14 years of age he started in the bicycle business, later helping his father in the milling business. When his father died in 1906, he went into partnership with his brother, Norman E. Cook, the business being known as Cook Brothers Milling Co. He also operated a garage. Ivir, Cook retired a year ago. He was an active member of the United Church, the Board of Trustees, and, was treasurer of the choir, of which he was a member, for over 40 years. s Surviving are his widow, the former Minnie Hemphill; one son, Harry, Windsor; one daughter, Mrs. Morley Chellew (01a), Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Norman, Hensall; Charles H. and William B. Cook, Chicago; and five grandchildren.
