incorporation of our Village he was elect-
ed Reeve of the township of Kinloss, a
position let; ably filled for sonic years,
and when Lucknow became incorporat-
ed he hail the honor of being elected the
forst ]lead of its Municipal Council. He
was all ardent supporter of county
affairs, and chiefly through his influence
the village of Lucicnow was attached to
theouuty of Bruce for municipal pur-
posq.- He was strong and convincing
in debate, and thoroughly outspoken in
his opinions, and at the County Council
meetings few if any possessed greater
ability or had more influence at the
Board than he had. He took an active
interest in politics, and for a great many
years was a leading member of the
Liberal party, and had the honor of be-
ing elected President of the Reform
Association of the county. In 1852 he
was chosen by the Liberals to represent
West Bruce in the House of Commons.

since that time lie has almost contiuous-
ly been confined to the house, but the
