on oat blades. This; phenomenon is no-
ted on the farm of William Culbert,
near Ripley,' and some recall that a
similar• good omen was apparent dur-

The Jubilee anniversary of Crewe
United]- church was observed on Sun
day with congregations both .morn-
ing and evening services that more
than taxed the accomodation of the
church.
Construction of the 'present build-
ing was commenced • in the early sum-
mer, half a century ago, and for this
Jubilee occasion ,effective, redecorat-
ing was . carried out. -
.. 'The morning service was conducted
by Rev. eonard,• Bartlett of Belmont.
a former1minister at 'Dungannon, and.
Crewe. Music, was providedby a lab -

private banking firm of Campbell and
Cameron.

calendar is greatly enlivened by the
approaching event. The -Marriage will
unite families prominent in Mantgom-
ery and the South.
The Coroner and police were noti-
fied and an investigation is proceed-

The five-month fetus was believed

SENTENCED TO JAIL
Remanded a week after pleading
,guilty to a ebarge of assaulting and
obstructing Provincial.- Officer Q. Me-
Clovis, Frank •Baechler, a saw nmiller,'.
of Kinloss, was, . sentenced last Fri
day to a term, of • six -months' in' the
co. utity jail on each count,- the sen-
tences to run concurrently.,
On two' theft charges: an additional;
month Was added to the sentence.
Mary Baechler; his wife, convicted
of. obstructing the officer while in

away from him by Baechler and it
was while wrestling with him on the

bracelets that he heard a scuffling be-
hind him and glancing around founii'

of hardwood which she had snatched
from the wood -box and which she had
poised in the air. ready to trash the
constable from behind. She later hurl-
ed 'several smaller sticks at the cop,
and .in the confusion Baechler leaped
through'an open window and started
rpnning down the . lane 'toward -the
,swamp. Hurriedly tying up his bleed-
ing wrist, Officer McClevis went in,
pursuit and caught his man arnong
some willows in the swail. He was
able 'to handcuff hint' and place' him in
custody. '
He was. brought
to. the Walkerton

of Culross and a watering can, a car
pump and some wrenches from Ed.
Bushel of Kinloss. •
Mrs., 'Baechler; who pleaded -not
guilty to obstructing _a , peace officer,
was convicted of • the offence. -
