wine -drinking bout. Police charge
that Kilpatrick was killed by the blow

were no eye -witnesses, 'so far: as is
known, and the Crown's case must of
necessity be wholly circumstantial:
Reconstructed; the story•is that.Kil-
patrick, the dead roan, and Dodge, the
accused,: had . ;been working together
on small carpenteri,g jobs. Last
Thursday afternoon they went to. Lon-
don and purchased a quantity of wine.
Returning to ., the Dodge Home they
Partook' of an evening. ,meals prepared
by Mrs. Dodge; around, 5 o'clock, alter
which 31rs. Dodge and herfour chil-
dren Ieft to visit neighbors across the
road,:

It is, stated that Mrs: Dodge re-
tained hone shortly after 9 o'clock to
be confronted bya gruesome sight.
The body of Kilpatrick was lying on'
the Iiving-room .flood in a pool. of
blood: Her husband was in his bed- 1
room, kneeling at the bedside as
though in prayer, but' really in' a
drunken stupor. •
The woman did not linger, accord-
ing to the story she told the police;
but fled with her children to`the home
of a neighbor, whom she asked to look
after the children while she took the

brothers. The woman saidnothing to
the' neighbor about what she had just
seen, but the neighbor was, aroused by
her excited actions and staring eyes.
After she had left a call was put in
for the police.
Sinai' Crushed
Kilpatrick had been dead 'some
hours, Dr. Weeks, coroner,id when
he arrived. The man's skull -had been
crushed in by the blow of .a blunt
instrument. There was . only .one
wound:' Further then that polite re-
fused to" relate.
It has been stated,; however, that

med any knowledge• of
what had happened dutinig'the even-
ing hours. Theliving-room showed
signs of a struggle. Furniture was
disarranged and knocked over and
pictures ,had fallen front tha walls.
