J. 'M. BRYAN, M;A
Mr. J. ,Melvin Bryan, member of
the British Columbia Legislature, died
after a brief illness at his . home
at Lynn Valley` on May 5th.
lie was a son of the late Mr.. Jas.
Bryan, who was a former publisher
of The Lucknow Sentinel and reeve
of Lucknow' and one time Warden of
Bruce -County. He was born in Luck='
now 53 years ago endwent to the.
Pacific toast, having lived at Lynn
Valley for the past 20 years el- more.
His mother, who on his' death' sue-
seeded her first husband, Mr. Boyd
es owner of The Sentinel was very
well known . in Lucknow and through-'
put: Ontario for her W.C.T.1.T.. : active

In 1928 he withdrew from the field

Mackenzie. In 1937 he again was el-
ected to represent the Mackenzie rid;
ing,° a constituency he represented -Un-
til the time of his,• death. •
He' was a loyal trades unionist and
served as vice • president . of the Van-' '
couver Typographical • Union friom'.
1924 to 1927. In 1924 'he became a
member of the Council of the Dis •
trict of North : V, ancouver, sitting for
six /ears. In 1932 he was •" elected
reeve 'of that district..
He leaves, a wife, three sons, Jahn,
„David and Wilbur; ani two daughters.
