It is with profound sorrow that we
are called on this week to chronicle the
death of Elizabeth McLeod, beloved
wife of Laughlin Campbell, of Tees -
water, who 'passed away on Thursday,
Dec. 0th, at the age of 42 years and 5

ing good health for the past six weeks,.
but was not considered dangerous, and
on Thursr'ay, while.tall;ing freely to her
husband, a blood vessel suddenly burst
and in less than five inhnutes her spirit
had taken its flight. Mrs. Campbell lived
a consistent Christian life and was uni-
versally beloved, by an who knew her,
She was always performing kind ants
which will ever be remembered by her
friends, who are now mourning her de-
mise. The funeral service was con-
ducted on Sunday morning at the family
residence, and the funeral then pro-
ceeded to the residence of Henry
Perkins, at. Gerrie, where for two
hours her many friends viewed the re-
lnaius of their much lamented friend,
who had once lived in their midst. Rev.
Mr. Clarke formerly Incumbent of the
Teeswater Episcopal Church conducted
the services in both places and spoke in
feeling terms of the diseased, after
which interment took place in the
Gorrie Cemetery.
IT PAYS.
It pays to wear a smiling face,
And laugh our troubles dosvu,
For all aur little troubles wait
Our laughter or our frown.
Beneath the magic of a smile
Our doubts will fade away,
As melts the frost in early spring
Beneath the sunny ray.
It pays to snake a worthy cause,
By helping it, ottr own;
To give the current of our lives
A true aucl noble tone.
It pays to comfort heavy hearts,.
Oppressed with dull despair,
And leave in sorrow -darkened lives
One gleam of brightness there.
It pays to give a helping hand.
To eager, earnest youth;
To note, with all their waywardness.
Their courage and their truth ;
To strive with sympathy and love
Their confidence to win,
It pays to opefl wide the heart
And "let the sunshine in."
