are among the names mentioned for the

NORTH Bruce Liberals have decided
to appeal against the decision of the
County Judge regarding the ballots and
if necessary, to protest Mr, McNei11's
election.
Tiir. general elections for the Local
legislature of Prince Edward Island
took place on Wednesday. The Liberals
.ave elected 21 members and the Con-
servatives 9.
THERM are only Conservatives
left in the Quebec Legislative Assembly
of the 74 members. That was the result
of the elections held on Friday of last
,'week.. Thirty five of the Liberals were
elected by acclamation.
BOTH bye -elections in British Colum-
bia for the Commons, held on Thursday

Liberals have majorities in six of the
eight provinces, the exceptions being
Ontario and Manitoba. Iu Manitoba
tbe ,case is doubtful, as the Conserva-
tives have but one majority over the
Liberals, while the two Independents
are thought more likely to vote Liberal
than otherwise.

Reports are being circulated that H.
D. Henderson in 1872, came into posses-
sion of the post office here in an under-
hand or crooked way. I feel it my duty
towards H. D. Henderson, as I was re-
tiring postmaster in 1872 to give the
plain facts of 'the case to the public. At
the time of my appointment as, post-
master we had no office at Whitechurch.
I was given orders to take possession of
the property of the Ulster post office,
kept by Geo. McKety on the 12th con. of
East Wawanosh and have it removed to
the property I then owned and make it
a Bruce County post office. I had no

This week we have to chronicle the
death of James D. Forsyth; who died
Friday, Nov. 80th and was laid to
rest in the Episcopal cemetery, Rev. Mr.
Farney officiating. Mr. Forsyth. was
born in Roxboroshire, Scotland, and
moved with his parents to Galashiols
where ho grew up to manhood. He mar-
ried Catherine Stewart Who survives him.
They emigrated to America 47 years ago
and after living in the States for several
years they came to Canada. He engaged
hu .business iu Goderich for a year, after
which he moved to Wroxeter where he
resided continuously until his death.
He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and '7
children.

10th; Rev. J. Holmes will preach at 10,30
a.m.and 7.,and Rev. R. Hobbs at 3.80. A
thank offering of $25 is asked for in be-

Rev. W. W. Leech, of Toronto, oc-
cupied the pulpit last Sunday morning
and the pastor in the evening, in the
Methodist church.
A Xmas tree entertainment in connec-
tion with the Methodist ,Sunday School
on Xmas night, and in the Presbyterian
church on the 28th inst.
Wm. Weir, of Howick, who is a can-
didate
andidate for the County Council, was in
the village on Saturday, soliciting votes
and influence.
The Sabbath School of Ebenezer
church; Morris, will hold a Christmas
entOrtainment on the evening of Dec.

the village on Monday.
W. J. Duff has received a consign-
ment of handsome cutters from the Pal-
merston Carriage Company.
Mrs. Philip Thomas is visiting her.

spent Friday last in Brussels.

was appointed Treasurer of the town of
Seaforth, but owing to illness ho was
not able to attend long to the discharge
of his new duties. His death is deeply
regretted.

Mr. Colin Bethune, Treasurer of the
Town of Seaforth, died at his resi-
dence here on Saturday. Mr. Beth-
une had been in ill -health for about a
year, and confined to his residence for
tho,past three months. He was about
04 years of age. His widow, four sons
and three daughters survive Min. Mr.
Bethune had been in the employ of the
Grand. Trunk Railway nearly all his life,
Ile commenced with the company in
Toronto when quite a young man. Ile
afterWards went to Stratford, where he
field the position of freight agent for
several years. In. 1870 he Came to Sea-
forth as station agent and remained here
for 22 years, when he retired, As a rail•
way official he was faithful to his em-
ployers. and careful of the interests of
the public, and there never was here a
'Moro popular official or one who enjoy
ed in a higher degree the ootlfldetiee and.
