ment by-laws Nos. 422 to 434, and by-
law No. 435 consolidating the foregoing

By-law No. 436, confirming the agree-
ment between the• Corporation and
Messrs. 'Howson, Harvey & Drockel-
bank was read three times and passed.
' The agreement between. Wm. Bullock
and John Galt and the Corporation, as
we have outlined above, was then read.
McKenzie -Newton -That the Mayor

agreement between the town and Messrs.

Councillor Holmes thought there
should be a clause in the agreement to
the effe 9t that 40 of the employees should
be householders. Councillor Holmes
put in an amendment to this effect.
The proposed by-law, which will be
submitted to theratepayers on December
28th was then read.

W. 7. Scott, of Brussels, went to New
York last week and purchased a trotting
roadster stallion for Messrs. Scott &
Warwick, of Brussels. • The horse is
bredfrom the well known Kremlin,
whose sire is Lord Russell, a full brother
to Maud S., the former queen of the
turf.

years, free of interest and grant exemp-
tion of taxes, except school taxes for a

Messrs. Bullock and Galt addressed
the council, explaining the line of goods
they intended to manufacture. They
would make all kinds of waterworks
and gas fitters' supplies.
Both gentlemen were well pleased
with:the town and thought it was a
capital place in which to locate.

Samuel Forbes, and will in a few days be
running with a full staff of men.
At the fall, non -jury sittings before
Justice Rose, at Stratford, on Tuesday
of this week the first case was Scott vs.
Town of Listowel John Scott, the
plaintiff, a farmer near Listowel, brought
action against the corporation, the wool-
en mill, the tannery, for alleged pollu-
tion of a stream running through. his
property. He claimed that in 1898 he
had lost six head of cattle by drinking
the impure water, and hacl some thirty
others affected by the same cause. His
Lordship held that the cattle had died of
anthrax, not of drinking the alleged
impure water. The case was accordingly
dismissed with costs.
