One pair of knitted white stockings were as fine as 'AIR, .A UQCESS, of it a glass of violets and a handful of nuts thrown down. The other is a violin, tattered sheets of music and some flowers. Those old decorated jars and painted pie tins that have been showing since the Battle of Waterloo are antique . enough to be superannuated. The photographs on the wall were not taste- ° fully arranged. The samples of penmansnip had a crowd around them all afternoon. Most of the writing was 'excellent and all vertical. There were three classes, namely, under 26, under 13 and under 10. The three first prizes all went to the Rintoul family of No. 0, East Wawa - nosh, Je,unie, Alberta and Alexander. Miss Grieve is their teacher. A large slumber of quilts were shown, knitted, crocheted and pieced. All the entries were good; not a poor piece of work them. D'Oyles were there by the hundred, in netting, crochet, drawn work and silk embroidery, all nicely worked. Well she ought to get it. We saw her block of pieces for a quilt, and vary nice it tris. Half a dozen handkerchiefs and pair of sleeves made by a hand were as could be, This is good to teach the children to sew. The sofa pillows were first class both for quantity and quality', as were also table mats and drawn work. A sideboard cover ornamented with a drawn work and long fringe was quite handsome and should have gotten a first but a little doyley took it from;it. I'll warrant the owner of that sideboard drape was "hoppin" mad, I would have been, Not that the d'oyley didn't deserve first but the drape deserved it more. They should have been entered in different classes, eoarse and Outside the assortment of pumps, buggies, tile, and cement arches for doors and windows attracted the atten- tioh of those interested in "sich." , Of poultry not very much, was exhibited but what was to be seen was good. Of ducks, geese and turkeys there were but two pairs each, but all were exceedingly large birds. The gray- ish colored turkeys wore the largest I ever saw. 1' (Continued on page two.) TOWN COUNCIL.
