No other business school in Canada nos per-

Wingham dry goods stores have laid
in largo stocks of jackets, furs, andciress
goods, Plaids appear in the windows as
the leading fabric; their colors are more
subdued than formerly and are shown
in rough weaves. Figured velvets are
prominent. Looking at all the goods ono
wondered which would sell the best,
what designs would be most popular,
what orders would be repeated at the
wholesale houses. Also, what webs
would stay on the shelves with only a
little sold off them, to remain until the
clearing out sale next summer to be sold
at a "great reduction." Some will not
please the popular taste. Designed by
an original brain, perhaps, thought out,
adapted to the requirements of coloring
and weaving, placed upon the market—
bat a failure, after ,all the trouble.
Others with no more care bestowed upon
them are a success.

not an irresistable joy like spring, ditto.
The latter, with its dainty trimmings
and fresh flowers, shortens a season of
unchosen weather, is the forerunner of
summer, and the sign of the breaking
up of the dull and frozen winter. But
why do they shorten our lovely summer
by announcing fall head wear and other
wear while the weather is still warm?
Because women aucl men, like the
squirrel and the bear and other wild
things, must prepare for the blizzard
and the frost that freezes the "word
upon the lip." That is why, away in
July, when our thoughts are on far
different things, we read in the city papers
that Mr. So and So, the foreign buyer for
the firm of Which or That is away to
Europe to buy for the fall and winter
trade. Too late would they be•if they
waited till the "frost is on the pump-
kin," till the wind shrieks round the
house like a lost spirit, and the boards
snaps in the frost. Like China for the
holiday trade and articles for a Christ-
mas number, our apparel is prepared and
supplied by the far-seeing provider be-
fore the demand is expressed. No
matter how August -like September may
be all the signs keep ringing ont the
summer is past, the end is at handl
