appropriately decorated for the occasion.

TURNBERRT.
This week we have to chronicle the
•death on Wednesday of last week of an
old resident of Turnberry in the persou
of Robert Linton,heged 84 years and 2
months. He wan, native of Roxbor-
ough, Scotland, and came to Canada,
when a young man. About 28 years
ago he moved from the township of
Blenheim to lot 10, con.C., Turnberry,
where he has since made his home, and
where some members of his family still
reside. He was a consistent member of
the Presbyterian church, and a man of
sterling qualities, and retiring dispoSi-
tion. e leaves behind to mourn his
dow, thloe sons and two daught-
he sons are _Andrew, of Bay Co.
Robb,, jr. and William, who re-
side on the homestead, and his daught-
ers, Mrs. James K. Rae,and Miss Bessie,
•Who also resides at home. .
Minutes of Council meeting held in
Esty's Hall, Bluevale, on Monday Sept.

of last meeting were read approved and

Beports: Mr. Coupland reported that
lie had let a portion, 8 rods of Township
share of the Abraham drain to Richard
Armstrong at $1.00 per rod also that
Andrew Carruthers had repaired Culvert
on 8th line at 50ots; Mr. Musgrove 're-
ported having let a job of filling up road
where damaged by fire to John Mc-
Tavish at $14.70, also engaged A. Mc-
Gee to work at road where damaged by'
fire; Mr. Mitehell reported having let a
job of gravelling 50 yards on East gravel
road to Wm. Willis at 'A tents per yard,
also let a job of repairing culvert on
East gravel road to Wm. Willis at
F. W. Wright to inspect gravelling.
Moved by Mr. Mitchell seconded by
Mr. Lovell that we settle with Robert
Harris for damage to road by fire for the
sum of $6.—Carried,
Coupland—Mosgrove—That the Treas-
urers Bond having been read is satis-
factory to this Council.—Carried.
A limber of ratepayers applied to the
Council, Ito cleaning out drains bat as
seemed willing to talto the course
proserited by 'statute the matter was
left with the different parties to settle
amongst thenisolves.

Mr. Ed. Eradwin, our esteemed teach-
er in No, 8 has 'handed in hi resigna-
tion to the Trustees. EX has been the
life of No. 8 since three. years ago and
his many friends will be sorry at the
step he has taken. .. "
Messrs. Frank Crowe, Hugh Gillies,
Will Gillies and Donald McCormick left
last week on a visit to the West.
• Mrs.,Wat Marshall and two youngest
children took advantage of the recent
excursion to the West to visit her parents
who reside in Manitoba.
Miss Maggie Lacey who has been the
leading figure in Mr. John MoRaes domi-
cile for the past two years left last week
for her old home near Elora.
A few months ago the question of
establishing a Sunday school on the end
was agitated and there was "some"
capital subscribed. towards building a
site but there was a weak link in the
chain somewhere or perhaps the promo-
ters didn't get sufdeient encouragement
to warrant them in going on with the
project.
Last week wehacl a wind storm that
shook the apple crop pretty badly.
Mr. George Caslick has his new silo
completed and filled and has enough
corn left to fill another, corn being au
extra crop this year.

Will Wright, while assisting G. Han-
sell in cutting wood, was bit on. the arm
by a wood worm causing the arm to
swell and rise in large blisters, but it is
improving now.
Mr. °combos and Mr.. Cats fam-
ilies are going to attend a double wed-
ding iu Goderich this week.
Mr. S. Wright is assisting his brother-
in-law,: Tom Simpson, of Elma just
now.

of Petrolea, who died on Saturday last,

Smith at Belmore, has puichased Mr.
Henry M. Bosman's farm on the second
line of Morris for $8,600. Henry Bes-

Clayton Duff, who leas been ill for
some weeks, returned to his work in
John Kerr's store on Monday. Walter
