Tan Montreal Star has for some time I kept standing, these words: "Smash the machine. If there are two machines, smash both." Whereupon the Mont- real Herald gets off the following par- ody: "Shake Tupper. If there are two suppers, shake them both." The Sun admits that Mr. Foster voted /or the Liberal candidate in York in 1878, the election in which the Tories introduced the National Policy, and yet at New Glasgow Mr. Foster told a Tory audience thatthe Tory party, which in- cludes himself, and of which he is one def the leaders, stands where it stood in 1x78. Perhaps the party does, but Mr. Faster has executed a somersault.--, Xredericton Herald. The cry is constantly going up that the price in coal oil has advanced since x896 and that the present Government is responsible. The Brantford Courier is .one of the papers that circulates these statements. The Expositor obtained in- voices from grocers of that city showing that the prices of Canadian oil in 1896 'try the barrel was from 143ic to 16c per gallon, and in 1900 from tank wagon 14 tents. That o£ American oil was 20 tents in 1896, and 16 cents in 1900,. which snakes 2X cents cheaper than in 1896, au allowance of 56 cents having been made for the return of the barrels. Canarlia.n is about the same price, but the Exposi- tor claims that the quality is three cents per gallon better. MORE PREGIOOS THAN fine gold is your eyesight.
