The annual n;eoting of the Public
Library was held last week, The old
Board was re-elected and consists of
Messrs. G. S. Fowler, J. K. McLean, J.
Gallagher, Dr. M. H. Gillies and A,
Butohart and Misses Colvin and Sharps.
The librarian's report shows that there
are 8194 volumes in the library, 12 mag-
azines and 11 newspapers. There are
108 members and the number of books
issued for the eight months was 1406.
Tho receips for eight months was
$297.42. There was expended on books
during the eight mouths, $125.07; mag-
azines and Rapers '$50.00, while the re-,
mainder of the expenditure was for rent,
light, wood, librarian's salary, &o„ &c,
There is a balance of $42.29 on hand.

A patriotic concert was given iu the
Foresters' hall ..y the citizens of this
'Village on Thu y evening, the lith
fust. The proceeds which amounted to
about $70 was forwarded for the benefit
of the Canadian tontine who have
gone to South Africa. • The energetic
committee deserve groat praise for mak-
ing this concert one of the most sue-
cessful and enthusiastic _ever held in
this village .and notwithstanding the
stormy weather the hall was packed to
the doors. The hall was beautifully
decorated with flags, and the chief at-
tractions. of the programme were . the
sink ug of patriotic beruses and drill by
a company of 'oluuteers in uniform
wider the leaders1 ip of Mr, C. McClel-
land. Their chd iuses were splendidly
rendered and they rad Ito respond to an
