Cu make Christmas crafts at Vanastra

There are IS boys in the
first Vanastra Cub Pack this
year. Registration was held
on Sept. 14, when only 4 boys
and parents showed up. This
meeting consisted of forming
sixs. Si:ars and seconds were
pielte4 also. at this meeting
and games were played for
the rest of the night. Our
September 28th meeting was
a work night for the boys.
Armed with garbage bags
supplied by the township, a
scavenger hunt for izarbace
was begun around the church
and the recreation centre .
The yellow six had the fullest
bag at the end of hunt. Well
done yellow six. Our first
craft night of the year was
held at the Oct. 5 meeting.
since Thanksgiving was only
a week away:-It was decided
to have an Indian night
theme. With some ideas
borrowed from CJ 81. the
Christmas meeting of the
Seaforth Women's Institute
was held at the Seaforth
Public School, Dec. 8. Mem-
bers and their families en•
joyed a potluck supper and a
Christmas program.
Mrs. Graham Kerr was
presented with a- life mem-
bership in recognition of 25
years as an active member of
the institute. Mrs. G. Mac-
Kenzie highlighted her activ-
ities, and Mrs. Eldon Kerr
presented Ethel with a life
membership pin and corsage.
Gordon Wright showed
pictures and gave a com-
mentary on a trip to Scotland
which he called: "The road
to the Isles." The beauty of
the Isles, and the traditions
handed down over the years
were most interesting. Gord-
on was introduced by Mrs: R.
Gordon and thanked by Mrs.
G. MacKenzie..
President. Mrs. Eldon
Kerr. opened the meeting
boys were shown by Bag-
heera. Hclai to make Lion
clothes. Each cub then paint-
ed his own design onto the
cloth. Tom-toms were also
made. These were construct-
ed from 48 oz. juice cans and
old liner cloths. To complete
the dress. Indian head-dress-
es were made from construc-
tion paper and a cardboard
feather. The adept finger of

boy's face v Oct. 24 was Boy
Scout apple day. and avery
successful one for us. Thanks

and Seaforth for their gener-

residents near the recreation

tume were judged with the
following results The most

supper, and Mrs. R. Gordon
was in charge of the pro-
gram. A lucky prize was won
by Gordor. Elliott.

the First Presbyterian
Church W.M.S. was held On
Thurs., Dec. 17th at 2:30
p.m. The president welcom-
ed the-members and-read a
poem. A hymn was sung.
Roll call was answered with
the title of a Christmas carol'.
Mr. Crouch, in her 'very
gracious manner, thanked
the ladies for the poinsettia
-sent to her by the Ladies Aid.

have family bowling on Fri-
day evenings 8 to 10 p.m.
and Sunday afternoons from
2 p.m. to b p.m. Children
under 14 accompanied by a
parent can bowl for 35 cents.
Vanastra Lions and Lioness
club will again be looking for
the house in the community
with the most effective dis-
play of Christmas light with
prizes of $25 first, $15 for
second and $10 for third.
Final judging will be done on
Christmas eve. A hayride
with carol : singing will take
place on Christmas eve start-

Eve. On Dec. 24 the children
will be singing at Conestoga
College during its Christmas
dinner. At about 6 p.m. the
children will be carolling in
Vanastra. This is an effort put
out by the'children in order to
give Christmas cheer. Sin-
cere wishes are extended to
Kenneth Rhynard who was
recooperating in Clinton Pub-
lic Hospital from a mild heart
attack

VANASTRA LIONESS CLUB
The Lioness Club made a
donation of $300 to the
Clinton Public Hospital build-
ing fund as a result of its
Christmas bazaar. We would
like to thank everyone who
made this-possible. The Lions
and Lioness and their families
_enjoyed a Christmas party at
the recreation centre on Dec.
20 with free swim games and
a visit from Santa Claus for
the children. and a pot luck
supper and carol singing. We
would like to thank everyone

The Vanastra Christian
Church and the Lions and
Lioness are holding a hayride
on Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve)
and carol singing at..-the
Christian church. They will
leave about 6 p.m. After-
wards Debbie's Restaurant is
providing hot chocolate.
After the carol singing there
will-'be a candle light service.
Everyone is welcome. There
is no Sunday School on Dec.
27th. "Come Alive" will start
again on Jan. 5. The Sunday
school and the "Come Alive"
had a very successful pageant
