The score was 2.1 foraditchell after the first, and 5-3 after the-second. Mitchell scored the only goal of the third frame. The win was Exeter Hawks at Hensall' Sunday afternoon. arh win was only the second of the, season' in ZS games for the* Centenaires. ft was juit a matter of time before the losing bubble burst. The 'Centerfaires have been displaying an excellent brand of hockey during the last 10 to 12 games. McClure. who seems to thrive on work. was at his best on Sunday. especially m the fir5t period when he stopped all 16 shots with several of them looking like sure goals . It Was the third game in five nights for the Centenaires. who dropped two decisions earlier in the week S-3 in Luean on Wednesday. and 6-3 to Mitchell on Friday night. • In the three games Mc Owe faced a total of 134 shots. Mark McElwain gave the Centenaires a 1-Q first period Lead. He took a Bob Mammer- steeg pass and then ripped a drive past Hawk goaltender Pete Parsons. Melt% ain was at his best on Sunday chs• playing the quality leadership the team needs The second period saw the Hawks come out strong. as they scored two goals in the first three minutes to take the lead. John Keinick and Ed Willis were the marksmen with the latter's goal coming on the power play Just eight seconds later. with the Cen- tenaires Don Williamson still in the penalty box, Ian Doig scored a shorthanded goal on a pass from KAN, ain to tie the score at 2.2. At 8:35 the Centenaires took the lead as Mike Kelly scored from Kevin Denomme and Paul Smale, That goal came on a power play. The Centenaires outshot ' the Hawks in the period, but lost the services of Ian Doig and Ken Higgins who both incurred match penalties for butt ending. They-were also minus rookie defencernan Dace Erb who left with an injury after the first period. The third period which in recent games has been a disaster for the locals was just the opposite this time as they completely dominated the play. McLlwain put the Cente- anires ahead 4-2 at 11:54 of the period with a real deter- mined effort. He picked up a pass from Smale at center ice while skating full tilt, split the tough Exeter defence, drew goaltender Parsons out to lunch. and slipped the puck into the open net: It was one one of the best efforts by a Centenaire in recent years. The Hawks drew to within one at 16:40 as Preston Dearing stored but the strong forechecking and heads up defensive play by the Cente- naires kept the Hawks from getting any good chances. The locals outshot the Hawks 11-6 in the period.-but were outshot 29-28 in the game. The Centenaires picked up 52 minutes in penalties com• pared to 18 for. the Hawks The Centenaires have five straight road games before returning home on Fri. Jan. 8 to host the Thedford Browns. LUCAN 5 SEAFORTH 3 In Lucan last Wednesday night the Centenaires again suffered a third period let- down as the Irish scored three unanswered tall on the power play) goals to overcome a 1-2 second period deficit to de- feat the Centenaires 5-3. The two teams were tied 1-1 after the first period with Pete Van Drunen scoring for the Centenaires assisted by Bob Mommersteee The second frame saw the Centenaires get only three shots on the Lucan goal, but they scored on two of them. The Irsh however tested Seaforth neiminder Dan Mc- Clure with 22 shots but were only able to manage one goal.
