how the Historical Society
came into being in 1964 and
about the beginning of the
County Museum at Goderich,
now considered one of the
best museums in Canada.
Meetings of the Historical
Society are held all over the
county and the articles read at
these meetings are published
annually. Many valuable ir-
replaceable documents have
been collected by the Society
and are now stored in the
vault in the new• County
Library in Goderich.
History has been made
since day .otie. The pioneers
kept note as they travelled the
Huron Tract and their build-
ings resembled the architec-
ture of the Old Country. In
1947, Lady Tweedsmuir ask-
ed the Women's Institutes to
record the histories of their
villages and most branches
now continue this work in
their Tweedsmuir history
books. The I'dstotteriffeinic-
crofilmed and stored in local Ki les excitedly waiting for the concert to begin and getting ready to
libraries.
President Mrs. Joyce Pep-
per conducted the meeting
and opened with a poem.
"Help Yourself to Happi-
ness". Thirteen members
answered the roll call by
recalling a vanished land-
mark in the area. After a
discussion it was decided to

Group enjoyed a delicious Pot
Luck meal on Monday at the
hoMe of Mr. and Mrs. Al
Hoggarth. The rooms and
tables were decorated ar-
tistically for the occasion.
Mrs. Kenneth Knight gave
the blessing preceding the
meal.
President Mrs. Robert Bell
presided for the meeting of
the W.M.S. and opened with
a poem, "Another SWeet
December". After a medita-
tion on "Christmas". "Holy
Night" was sung: Mrs. Al
Hoggarth was' in charge of the
worship and spoke on "The
Gifts. of Christmas". Mrs.
William Bell read the scrip-
ture and the bythri "The Wise
May Bring Their Gifts" was
sung. Mrs. Hoggarth led the
Bible readings followed by
members taking verse parts.
A meditation on "Christmas
• Gifts" was, given by Mrs.
Hoggarth. Mrs. Robert Tay-
lor played "0 Star of the
East" and "0 Holy Night" oil
and several (Alter carobs
accompanied by Eric at the
piano. The sisters and ac-
companist were thanked and
given a hearty applause. It
was a real pleasure to be
entertained by these talented
students,
Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Nott of
Seaforth were on the program
and Elgin played several
toe-tapping selections on the
,violin accompanied by his
wife at the piano, Mrs. HUB
Payne %gave an, interesting
reading "A December Night.
Long Ago". Mrs. Laird Mick-
le favoured with several piano
selections which were enjoy-
ed, by all. Mrs. Alex McBeath
gave a humourous reading
entitled "An Ode To:Christ-
mas or Keeping Your Cool."
Alex made some humourous
remarks and Mr. Nott favour-
ed with several more selec:
tions on his violin. Alex
thanked all for taking part in
the program and making the
evening so enjoyable.
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
HEAR SPEAKER

Mrs. Doris Batkin of
Clinton, Secretary-Treasurer
of the Huron County Histori-
cal Society was guest speaker
at the December meeting of
the Hensall Women's Insti-
tute on December 9. She told
the organ. After singing
"Angels From the Realni.s,of
Glory'" Mrs. Bell presided for
the business.
The roll call was answered
by naming your favourite
Christmas carol: An invita-
tion was received from
Queensway >Nursing Manor
to Open House, December 9.
Also from the Huron County
Christmas Bureau for toys,
good used clothing or unper-
ishable food which may be
left at the store in Exeter.
The offering was taken and
dedicated. The Treasurer
Mrs. Wni. Bell gave a very
gratifying report. The Presi-
dent, • expressed sincere
thanks to Mrs. Hoggarth for
her hospitality and closed
with prayer.
Mrs. Al Hoggarth presided
for the Lidies' meeting which
. followed and opened with a
Christmas poem and prayer.
Mrs. Lloyd Mousseau read
the minutes and the Trea-
surer, Mrs. H. Hyde gave an
excellent report. Next, the
business plans were reviewed
for the 1982 programs. Mrs.
Marlene Bell reported for the
cards and treats and gave a
reading "The Sunday School
Teacher". Mrs. Moir report-
ed for the quilt committee.
Next meeting will be Jan-
uary 4th in. the church at 2
p.m. Mrs. Jean Snell, Exeter
won the lucky plate.
Eric Luther, Chairman for
the Canadian National Insti-
tute for the Blind wishes to
adivse that we have had
another successful campaign
again this year. A total of
$1405.50 was realized.
We wish to thank everyone
who donated to this-organiza-
tion to help make our 1981
canvass a success.

The "Three Links"
Seniors of Hensall met in the
local hall on Tuesday evening
for their annual Christinas
meeting. The Hall was beaut-
ifully decorated for the occa-
sion and the tables' presented
a delightful appearance. Fol-
lowing adelicious dinner, the
President Mrs. Eileen Rennie
presided Treasurer.
Mrs. Dotpthy Brintnell gave
the report Ind Secretary Mrs.
Irene Davis read the corre-
, spondence and called the roll.
The meeting closed by
singing. the "Queen" with
Mrs. Alf Ross at the piano.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex McBeath
were in charge of the program
and spoke a few words stating
they had asked Eric Luther to
help with the program. It
happened that the Gosse
sisters Sonya and Michele
from Newfoundland. who are
studying music at the Univer-
sity of Western Ontario, were
visiting the Mock's and being
acquaintances of the Luther's
were requested by Eric to
sing for the seniors which was
much appreciated by all.
Michele sang a solo "Joy to
the World" and they sang a
duet "Silent, Holy Night"
"Once In David's Royal City"
