The township hall was
packed on Sunday with
parents. grandparents.
igeat-grandparents, aunts
and uncles of the students for
the Sunday !`,vhool's
excellent concert. The stage
was filled with students for .
the opening numbers, Rey.
Wilena Brown was master of
ceremonies, and read
interesting excerpts from a
selection of Christmas news
items in the 1880's to keep
the audience entertained
during set changes,.
Recitations by the
following children were
interspersed throughout the
programme: Mary Ellen
Webster, Sandra Coolly,.
Mark Webster,' ' David
Rathwell, Chris Taylor.
Suzanne Stephenson,
Raymond Beierling. Krista
*Ash. Shelley Stephenson.
Jason McAsh. Darryn
McAsh. Greg Taylor and
Paul Hill. Especially funny
were Chris Taylor, prior to
saying his piece. responding
to directions from behind the
curtain with "good and loud?
fteal loud!" And loud and
clearly he spoke.
Shelley Stephenson would
up with "My dad would like
to meet the tedcher who can
make an "angel" out of
me!" All of the children
knew their recitations well
and spoke out well, Besides
the fun they have, it's
excellent training for them.
The - smallest children.
dressed up ftir the Parade of
the Wooden Soldiers were
adorable,. The junior class
helped Santa spell happy
words without the "i" that
was missing from Merry
Christmas. The Christmas
detectives found Santa's
Missing things in his winter
underwear. "I Love You"
helped the forgetfuE'Santa
remember his "Ho, ho. ho!"
The senior class explained
why Christmas had been
cancelled, and when father
(Jim Hill) blew the dust off
the family Bible (and there
were great clouds of it) and
read the Christmas story.
Christmas became a joyful
reality again.
Santa arrived at just the
right time and distributed
gifts and candy canes to all of
the children.
The Sacrament of
Communion wilt he observed
in Varna church next
Sunday. On Christmas Eve at
':30 there will be an informal
service of carol singing and
a cake in honour of Jesus'
birthday. Bring along your
families w ho are' home for
Christmas.
Eleven women took the
three•session Department of
Agriculture sponsored
quilting course in Varna.
Instructors were Dorothy
Ostrom. Eleanor McAsh.
Majrorie Stirling and Elva
Webster, A variety of
quilting techniques were
learned some of them a
revival of old methods. There
should bye very interesting
display on summary day in
the spring.
