On Exeter ice Sunday night they lost a 12-7 shoot-out to the sec9.114-Place Hawks- TheCentenairestrailea 2-0 after the first period against Port Stanley. but fogght back in the second period to outscore the Lions 2-1 and make the score 3-2 after two periods. The third period again saw the Centenaires weaken as the Lions pep- pered Seaforth netminder Dan McChire with 21 shots and scored four unanswered goals. The Centenaires_ were only able to get three shots on the Port Stanley net in the period. The Lions outshot the Centenaires by a 45-28 mar- gin while the locals took 11 of 21 minor penalties. Scoring for the Centenaires were Mike .Kelly and Ian Doig. At Exeter the,tentenaires played a- strong first period. and outshot the Hawks 11.6, but were outscored 1-0 as the quick skating Hawks scored with only 42 seconds remain- ing in the period. The second frame saw the Centenaires strike early to tie the score as Mark McLlwain scored his first of two goals. converting passes from Bob Mommer- steeg and Jerry Hoggarth at the 58 second mark. From that point on. the roof seemed to fall in on the locals as the Hawks came back with four. Straight goals in less than eight minutes to take a 5-1 lead. MeLlsvain then notched his "second goal, from -Mom mersteeg and Hoggarth in a 'goal mouth seTamble, but the Hawks came back with two more before the period -ended to take ,a-varernanditi,g_7-2 lead-lrO the ibid.—Exeter outshot the Centenaires in the period by 16-7 margin.- The third period saw the Centenaires come.out strong as they scored three goals in the first five minutes of play to put themselves back in the game. Scor- ing were Jerry Hoggarth from Mommersteeg and McElwain Pete Van Drunen then scored his first Junior D goal. with the assist going to Ian Doig then Doig scored from Bill Flanangan and Dave Erb. The Hawks got one back to take an 8-5 lead before Mike Kelly drew the puck back to defenceman Erb who let' go a hard shot which beat Hawk goalie Mike Todgeel to again draw the locals to within two goals of the leaders. Exeter then bounced back with three goals to regain their five goal leid. John Hicknell scored the final Centenaire goal from Doig and. Don Williamson with less than four minutes remaining. while the Hawks counted with a goal with 32 seconds left in_the game to make the On Tues. Dec. I Seaforth's hockey bantams played host to Clinton in Vanastra. The Seaforth team worked extra hard and won 7-5, which was closp.than the last time they played Clinton. In the first period Dave McLlwain opened the scoring for Sea- forth at the 10-minute mark in a pass from Danny Van Loon. Within mifiutes' Clinton an- swered with its first goal. Bob Ladd. Going intm- the second period Seaforth's Dave McLlwain scored his second goal of the game giving Seaforth a 2-1 lead. Within seconds Chris Cardnc added another goal making the. score 3-1' for Seaforth. Clinton scored; two quick goals. by Frank Schlendorf and Jeff McIntosh, trying the final score 12-7 . Exeter outshot the Centen- aires 35-29 overall and prcked up 10 minutes in penalties compared to 14 by the Cen- tenaires. Each team had one power-play goal in the game. Wayne Bentiewies' played the entire game between the pipes for the Centenaires and kicked out severat -difficult drives. ,( Centenaire Scents: Of the Centenaires next 20 games 12 are on the road and eight at home. This weekend features two home games. Friday night they host the Thedford Browns. at 8:45 and on • Sunday they host the Lucan Irish in a 3:30 contest. Bob Mommersteeg still leads the Centenaires in scoring based on 11 goals and a leading 19 assists for 30 points. Mark McElwain is second with 24 points and leads the team in goals with • M. Don Williamson leads in penalties with 105 minutes.. Attendance is very poor it home-games making it a very tough year for Centenaire management. Even thoygh they are having their pro- blems getting it together on the ice it doesn't make it any easier playing before 25 to 50 fans with the majority being from opposing teams. This is a decent team with a lot of first-year kids and the scores of late have been respectable. so let's come on over to Hensell and cheer the boys on, after all there are still twenty games left. game again. Starting the third period, Seaforth's Trevor Price scored an unas- sisted goal giving Seaforth the teed of 4-3. Shortly after Greg Murray added another goal to the score 'board for Seaforth. Peter Elynick,,,for Clinton answered with a goal and within minutes Kevin Melady and Greg Murray adding two more goals for Seaforth. Clinton scored its last goal by • Bob Dupee. • Dave *McLlwain and. Kevin Melady each picked up two assists for Seaforth and Greg Murray added One assist. Seaforth had 11 minor penal- ties and one misconduct. Clinton had seven minors. The Seaforth Senior Girls Ringette team came up on the short end of a 9-3 score against the powerful Goder- ich Girls. But they rebounded last Sunday in Mitchell as they handed. the Mitchell girls a 13-3 defeat. The Goderich game was played at Vanastra on Friday November 27th. Seaforth try- ing to avenge an earlier loss to Goderich came out a little uptight and quickly fell be- hind 4-0 in 'the first five minutes of the game. Trac y Wright converted a pass from Denise Morey to put Seaforth on the board but Goderich came -roaring back and held a 7-1 lead after the first period. The local girls settled town for the. second period and played even with the visitors as both teams scored twice. Seaforth's goals came from Julie Habkirk with ken- da Wesenberg and Susan Bill assisting and from Denise Mbrey with Laurie Habkirk drawing the assist. Lisa O'Dryer up from the juniors played goal for the Seniors and turned in a great game as the Goderich team controlled most of the play. Seaforth again evened their record as on Sunday December 6th they travelled to Mitchell and whipped thF home team by a 13-3 score. In a complete turn around from the Goderich game the local girls outchecked and outskat- ed the home squad. Denis! Morey was a one man wreck- ing squad scoring six of Seaforth's goals. Julie Hab- kirk also added a hat trick scoring thee times. Single markers went to Laura Chew- ney.' Laurie Habkirk, Trac Wright and Brenda Wesen- berg. Seaforth's defense came up with their best effort so far as Debbie Core and Debby Vanden berk along with Susan Ball and Debbie Dinsmore completely frustrated the op- posing forwards and if they did manage to get through Cheryl Morey was up to the task in goal. All Mitchell's goals where scored by Sarah Brill one of the laders of last years Seaforth team.
