Messiah eras first produced in
Dublin in 1741. The Tafel-
musik -choir specializes in the
authentic vocal practices for
the music of the 17thcand 18th
centuries.
During his lifetime, Handel
made SeVeral revisions to the
Messiah, which he originally
wrote in only three weeks in
1741.10 fact, the oratorio was
never' performed in its origi-
nal state. Tafelmusik has
bated its concert on a per-
formance directed by Handel
himself at the Foundling
Hospital. in London in 1751.
The group researched Han-
ders music carefully and
using similar instruments
tries to recreate that 1751
performance as accurately as
possible.

a unique treatment when
Tafelmusik Orchestra and
Chamber Choir performs the
classic at Blyth Memorial
Hall, Sunday. December 13
at 2 p.m.
Although with nearly 40
musicians and singers in-
volved this will be the largest
ensemble yet to perform in
the !Myth Centre for the Arts
music series, this Messiah is
actually a scoled-down simp-
ler version than the huge
productions often performed
In modern times 'with entire
Denise Morey scored eight
goals to lead the Seaforth
Ringette team to a 13-5
victory over Clinton. The
victory evens the girls record
at 1 win and 1 loss as they get
their season underway.
Laurie Habkirk added four
goals with Tracy Wright
adding a single marker for the
local girls. Julie Habkirk
added four assists with Janet
Vandenberg adding three
assists. Debbie Dinsmore.
Laura Chesney. Tracy
Wright, Debbie Vandenburg
and Denise Morey all had
assists as the local girls
dominated play.
Both teams picked up just
three minor penalties in the
contest. Cheryl Morey turned
in an outstanding game in
goal.
The Seaforth team has
several first year seniors and
could become a strong team
for several years to come if
they can stay together.

A short repon_ of the
meeting last Thursday eve-
ning. A report of the poppy
drive was given by Claire
Campbell. The donations re-
ceived amount to $1.338.96.
This has been one of our best
drives ever and we would like
to take this opportunity to
thank you, the public for
being so generous in your
donations. As has been men-
tioned before this money is in
a separate account and used
for veterans and their fami-
lies in need.

Lawn _bowlers
The local lawn bowling
club held its first euchre and
bridge on Nov. 17 in the
Orange Hall. Seven tables of
euchre and two tables of
bridge were played. The high
bridge player was Marjorie
Marie Flynn and her Huron Strings supplied entertain-
ment following bingo live on Mitchell cable television last
Wednesday night.
The guest speaker at the microwave cooking
demonstration sponsored by the ladies division of the
Seaforth Agricultural Society Monday night had some very
kind words for a local group. She told the audience she'd
been at the recent London Santa Claus parade and "the
Seaforth District High School Trumpet Band was by far the
best band there." She went on to praise the quality of the
band's musicianship and its fine choice of Christmassey
music. •
The microwave cooking demonstration was well attended
andlhe audience enjoyed learning about (and sampling) a
